I'm a newbie, waiting patiently for my new 29' Newmar to arrive. Now since it is impossible to get a in dash GPS for my model; what do you all have and use? I'm wanting a Bluetooth, large screen model. We will be traveling this summer up to Canada and I need all the help I can get.

Thanks

Hi Chabear,
Welcome to iRV2. This may get better replies in the Information and Technology Forum. I've asked the moderators to consider moving the thread.

I use in dash GPS units. I can not help you for a portable recommendation.

There are many out there. I bought a Cobra 7700 brcause it's set up for cars and trucks. You can enter info on your rig, height, length, etc and it'll help keep you out of sticky situations. Check it out on their website.
The best advice I can give is to use it in conjunction with a map. You can't trust that GPS all the time

Garmin nuvi with the trucker mode. I have the 465 and I'm very happy with it. It lets you set the size and height of your rig and routs you around areas you won't fit or where there would be tight turns.

I use the garmin nuvi 1490t. I love the bluetooth and the 5 inch screen is why I got it. My eyes started needing reading glasses to see close and my old 3.5 inch screen was getting hard to read.
With any gps though and an rv make sure you map where your going first so there is no surprises I The thing I love most about the gps is the ability to find grocery stores etc.. when in strange areas.

I got the same Garmin for Christmas. It is very easy to use, & has bluetooth for hands free. The unit was less than 200, with several accessories. It even tells you how fast you are going, & what the posted speed is at your location. If you are speeding, the speed shows up in red!

Good Luck!

This is so great to hear your responses. We were considering the Garmin 465t since it allows more trucking routes or safe guards to areas of unknown. I'll admit it my DH really wants the Garmin 1490t instead because it "looks more like a IPhone, had better resolution and thinner" but since we are newbies I don't want to get stuck in a tunnel or bridge..........hence reason for trucker version. So am I being overly cautious and nervous?

My poor eyes are rolling and my head is swirling with so many options. Even the Cobra 7700 was listed but didn't get great ratings. I'm so confused.

Look into the rand mcnally 700t. 7" Screen made for trucks. I have logged over 200,000 miles in my big truck with their unit and it has never put me on a bad route. Always had good luck with it. Updates are free on the unit.

I just got the Garmin Nuvi 1490LMT for $175(refurbished) from Amazon. It has a 5" screen, bluetooth and lifetime map updates. You can even see the screen in the daytime.

I bought the Garmin 465t before we took delivery of our rig. It is a fine GPS, but we can't claim that the "T" function has helped us that much. We also bought a great Atlas at a Flying J which shows the same trucker hazards. If I had it to do over I would probably get some other Garmin, although I have to admit, we use our iphones more than the Garmin.
