Onan 5500W genset - auto mode problem

I couldn't get my generator programmed for automatic operation. In fact, I couldn't even get a display on the EC30 controller without starting the genset. After calling Onan, they told me that it's not enough to select AUTO on the controller -- you have to push ENTER. Doh! They said they've had so many calls about this that they issued a bulletin to all their dealers.

There's no way to do this without first starting the genset. It will come up in MANUAL mode. Then you can switch it to AUTOMATIC and it will remember your settings from the last time, like quiet times.

However, whenever you move the coach, the genset reverts to MANUAL mode with a blank controller display. This safety feature prevents operation while towing.
