Outlook

Hello,

My sister just purchased a new computer with Win 8.1. She is using Outlook for e-mail. Is it true that you have difficulty accessing it from another computer? If not, what's the process?

Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, you set Outlook to download emails from the email provider (be that Google, Yahoo, your IP...etc). I access my email from another computer by logging into my email provider's main webmail site - in my case, Time Warner Cable, as they are the business that provides my email service.

I download Outlook 2003 emails, under W8.1 on our computer, onto our Android Galaxy tablet and two Galaxy s3 phones without complication.

The process is probably different for Android or IOS.

Actually, I am migrating to GMail as the universal aggregator of emails.

You won't be able to access Outlook from another computer unless she has her computer set up for remote access, as it proprietary to her computer. That would require the use of another computer with special software for doing so, it's not like web access email. That said every provider i know of has web access email for remote access, that's where an email goes before her Outlook even gets it. Microsoft does have online Outlook that i belive can collaborate but i'm not sure; https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...c=1&cbcxt=mail

Thanks for your responses so far, it looks like there are some options we hadn't thought about.

Win 8.1 has a native email client that I use with Gmail account. Touch enabled, etc. Works pretty well.

You can use Outlook to download mail from POP accounts, but it is not easy to share a calendar unless you are connected to an Exchange server.

Why use Outlook when you can just go to Hotmail, Yahoo mail or any other web based email? Outlook makes it too complicated if you change providers etc
