Anyone using a magnetic mount or glass mount exterior cell phone antenna on there coach? I have been looking at the wilsons as they show the best gain, 7-14, over the others but am interested if they are worth the price and work to install.

Derek,
I bought a Wilson cell phone external antenna, ground plane disk, and connecting cable and found that the difference is almost negligible. At home our cell phone when used with it's internal antenna has only one bar and invariably a call will get dropped while making it.
I've placed the external antenna in a window that faces the direction of the cell tower and it helps a little. The phone still has one bar but at least we can make the call without it being dropped.
I think if we were physically able to talk on the phone with it's internal antenna while up in that window it'd work the same.
IMHO, these external antennas are a rip off and almost useless.

Derek,
I'm close to buying a system from these guys. Click on the topics on the left side of their home page for some very good explanations of antenna's etc.

I use a Wilson antenna. I have a mag mount to sits on the mounting bracket for my automatic awning. I have Verizon and it increased my reception from 2 bars to 5 bars and from no bars to two and some times three. Well, worth the $40+.

We got the Wilson RV/Trucker dual band and it resulted in 3-4 bars at home where no cell phone has ever worked. Hopefully it will do the same in the 5er. We did have to upgrade our Verizon phone to one that will accept an external antenna.

I also use the Wilson RV/Trucker Dual Band with the Verzon phone. Works very well. In really remote locations I use a yagi directional with good results.

External antennas are good . But alot of the gain you realize is lost in the connections and cable . If you really want great cellular reception consider an amplifier. There are alot out there but the best units are the inteligains . They have them at http://www.maximumsignal.com
