I was looking at Walmart and Target at LCD HDTV and I cannot tell any difference from the higher priced Sony to the cheaper VIZIO. I saw a artice in Popular Mechancis on LCD TVs and they did not rate the VIZIO very well on picture quality but it looked good to me as well as the others.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My wife, son and I continue to have this discussion. They claim to see the difference. I see no difference between the high priced and budget priced models. When comparing, be sure to compare sets that are the same screen size.

I spent a lot of time last fall reviewing and looking at LCD TVs and ended up with a 52 inch VIZIO LCD.

It hard to believe VIZIO would be rated below anyone. But I also wanted some feature which they had and others did not like PIP, extra connections, and superior sound quality. In full 1080 resolution the picture is awesome.

VIZIO sound is outstanding. Previously I played our DVD Movies through my full stereo but with the VIZIO I can't tell the difference thus never need to play through the stereo.

I am going to get a 32 inch LCD VIZIO for my bedroom and am seriously looking at a 26 inch model for the RV. Just have to figure out how to hang the sucker.

The difference b/w Vizio and say Sony is not that great, especially if you are not a videophile. My wife and I fight about this all the time as I am an audio/video nut.

If you can't see the difference then it is not there. Buy the Vizio.

Please be warned though, there are no service outlets not parts for Vizio. It is a throw away item once out of warranty if it is broken.

I'm not saying don't buy it. Just hoping to help avoid a surprise.

Also, a Sony is not necessarily a Sony. Unless you are buying the XBR line, it is hard to tell the difference from most brands. Sony has a strategy to rebrand other manufacturers products and get a premium on name only.

For my mid-ship TV I asked Newmar to just wire it as I didn't want the stock TV. I bought an mounted my own, an XBR2. Newmar installs the KDL line usually which is good but, not great.

I bought my 32" Vizio at Costco.... if it breaks Costco will take it back..... definitely not a throw away.
My brother and I both have several Vizio tv's and have been very happy....

Off topic a bit, but with the recent demise of DVD HD, here comes the Blu-Ray!!

That'll be my next purchase as the only DVD player I have in the house is in the Bose System.

The Vizio from Costco has more features than the somewhat identical looking Vizio from Wal*Mart.

Bob,

That is awesome. I had read on a few HDTV sites some horror stories, particularly for out of warranty items. Maybe Vizio/Costco/Sam's etc. listened.

Dirk,

Does it have a port that you can plug your hat into?

Only the Costco model has that port.
