Pathway X2 Anti-theft

The Pathway X2 looks like a convenient way to automatically find satellites, which also makes it an attractive thing to steal.

There is no way to prevent a determined thief from carrying it away, but are there any ideas about ways to slow down thieves other than putting it away whenever going away from the RV?

Yes, you can attach a cable w/lock to it and then to a tree or the RV or any secure place. I've had my X2 for several years now without a lock, and so far, no one has bothered it.

I would think it is quite low on the list of things worth stealing. Probably has no value at the nearest pawn shop. Bikes are different.

Most people don't know what it is. I had a camper come over to me one morning and asked if I saw anything interesting in the skies. I must of had that "what on earth are you talking about" look and then he pointed to my X2 and said I see your telescope going back and forth last night looking at the stars. When I told him it was a satellite dish and it "looks" at 6 different satellites (3 eastern arc, 3 western arc) by moving back and forth he said "what will they think of next. That thing is a satellite dish?"!

Yup ... I have made a PVC pipe quadrapod for mine that has different heights. I actually get more interest in that than the X2.

I have a 25' and 10' cable locks. Use each alone or together. Secure to RV frame, trailer hitch, etc.

Could you post a picture of that quadrapod? Sounds interesting.

I have a pic of the parts .... I'll take a pic of it set up as soon as I get a chance. Basically, the square frame is attached to the X2 with wing bolts and you select a set of legs based on how much height you need to get a clear view. There are eyebolts in the square frame to hang jugs of water if it's windy. Being a quad it's very stable. It's about 1 1/2" PVC if I remember correctly. About $40 total. I usually leave the square frame attached when the X2 is stored.

Thanks for the picture. That gives me a better idea how to proceed.

You are very welcome. It's probably obvious but the legs screw into threaded sockets and each other. The stubby legs are mostly in the event I need to put the dish on the roof ... I bungee a leg to the ladder. I have a 50 ft. coax that exits a basement compartment.

Looks great. What do you do for ground that isn't level enough?

No need for a bunch of leg options on our X2. I put it on the roof. Love our X2!

I carry 3 10' length of the kevlar cable with loops on the end. Just loop together what you need, loop around a tree or the RV and lock to the antenna. So far, knock on wood, mine has not been bothered in over 5 years and the last 3 as full time.
