Picasa 3?

I just upgraded to a larger, SSD drive, and had a clone program to move everything over. Well, for some reason my Picasa 3 did not move over!

Of course, Picasa is not available for download anymore. Does anyone have the program on a disc that you would share with me?

If you cloned the disks Picassa has to be there. If you used an "upgrade" manager or Docs/Profile mover to move your documents, pictures, etc; then no programs would "move over".

When I look at all programs, it shows Picasa 3, but when I click on it a box pops up that says "Please insert a disc".

Joe--

There's a difference between a "cloning program" and the kind of program that moves programs one at a time to a new drive.

As tfryman said, if you used a real cloning program then everything is on the new drive and there shouldn't be an issue. I recently upgraded drives on two of our laptops and every single program on them worked just fine afterwards.

If you purchased a name brand SSD (Samsung, Crucial, etc) there is probably cloning software available for download from the manufacturer. Just Google it. I recently installed a Samsung SSD in my wife's new laptop and used the Samsung cloning program which ran just fine. It allowed me to clone the new drive before I even demounted the old one from the computer which was even easier than the Crucial software I used last year for an upgrade.

All you need to use cloning software is usually a USB to SATA cable which you can get on Amazon (and other places). It allows you to connect the new drive while the old one is in place (or vice versa).

Joel, I used the Acronis True Image cloning software. My son had the program and has used it successfully several times.

It sounds as if there's some sort of "copy protection" feature that's trying to make you demonstrate you have a legitimate copy. Unfortunately, I can't think of a way around it.

I have noticed that the legitimate download sites no longer have it available.

Joe...you might want to consider moving to a supported software. Picasa was replaced by Google Photos. You might check that out...a new install should scan for photos on your system.

However, it's not clear [to me], if Google Photos keeps all your photos on your hard drive, in addition to loading them to the cloud. the cloud storage by Google is free, however.

Cloud storage is free for now. My Verizon account advised me that my cloud is expiring a few weeks ago. I was allotted 7 days to recover anything I wanted to keep, or I could simply upgrade to a better service for only $5 per month. I already had everything I wanted on my external hard drives, so I declined this gracious offer. One day cloud storage will be a significant household bill.

I have the Google Photos but the editing doesn't seem as good as Picasa. I can't see any way to crop a photo?

Joe:

Get a USB-SATA cable if you don't have one. Then use it to connect your old drive to your computer. You'll be able to find the directory where your photos are and can copy them back to your computer's new drive.

The pics are on the new drive in "My Pictures" and I have figured out how to load them into Picasa. Only problem now is that I will have to re-create all my albums!
