We are having trouble getting a good picture with our Digital HD TV, installed as orginal equipment in our T/T. The off air antenna, the crank up on the trailer works fine great picture. When we switch over to cable input we get a lot of snow and distortion. I switch the power off of the antenna outlet and switch the auto set to cable. It finds the cable stations OK, however; terrible picture. I even went so far as to connect the cable directly to the TV still bad, even used a new cable same results. I was told by a fellow camper that the poor picture was due to the cable company using the analog signal and that some new digital sets have problems. Any comments or help would be appreciated, our TV is a 2008 Haier HD digital. Thanks

We have run into poor cable TV in numerous campgrounds. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact the cable connectors and jacks are exposed to the weather.

Sounds like a bad cable signal. Check with a neighbor, if they have a good picture plug your cable into their jack for a test. It could be that you need to do an autoscan for analog in addition to the autoscan for digital, sometimes this isn't evident in the menu. You may also have an Analog/Digital button on the remote.

Try running the pedestal cable line directly to your set, eliminating your internal wiring. This will tell if the problem is the park or your setup. Also, switch your internal booster on, and then off and check your picture. Some are setup to pass the cable signal one way and some the other.

I have seen this under two conditions.... I have been in a park that just flat had too many splitters in the cable line and thus delivered a weak signal to the pedistal.
ON the other hand I have been in a park which had very good cable, IN fact I'm watching a show off that cable even as I type (Digitally recorded for later play back since I'm not there) and it's sharp as a DVD on my monitor.
My Next site neighbor could not get good cable signal
I located the Winegard video switch/power supply (The wall plate with the 12 volt outlet, Button LED-Glowing brightly, and antenna connection....
Pushed the button to turn off the LED, and, I might add, Select PARK CABLE as the input, and the signal was... As sharp as the one I just described.

Guys, thanks for all the reply's, we are under the impression that the problem is with the campground hook up's rather than our unit. Tried the direct hook up and absolutly no change in picture quality.
Thanks Again
Mike

Re-Reading your original post, I agree... Sounds like the park is just dividing the cable too many times.
Each time you split you loose 3-6 db (Good splitters 3, el-cheapos, 6) or more
You can only split so many times.

along with everything already mentioned wrt too any splitters, connections being exposed to the weather; rarely does the cable company come back to re-balance the amplifiers.
