Poor Sound volume on dish

We have been using for the past month or so a Winegard Carry Out, pay as you go Dish. Not too many problems, but the volume has been so low it's difficult to hear above AC etc. We were presuming it was the TV speakers. But DH decided in frustration to give Dish a call just in case. The CS tech said it could be either the black box (receiver) or a coax cable. But didn't give any real solution suggestions. Anyone heard of this? Have similar experiences?

I don't recall hearing of that issue. I'm not sure how a bad coax cable could cause a digital audio signal to have low volume. I guess there's any number of ways that a bad receiver could cause it though.

Can you try a different TV on the SAT? If it's the SAT gear, the second TV will show the same symptom...then you will be looking at getting a better rep on the customer service line. There are internal audio settings on some receivers.

If the second TV has good audio...IT'S TIME TO GO TV SHOPPING!! Remember - BIGGER IS BETTER

Has the black box got two audio outputs - one fixed and the other variable output with a 'volume' control next to it on the back. Or has the menu any output level adjustment as part of the set up procedure
