Hello,
We just purchased a 2004 Freightliner Toter home that came with a Tracvsion SF and Directv. After 3 weeks between the two companies and different receivers (currently now a D10-300 Receiver), KVH has informed me that I need a software update to make it all work (Directv would not activate the old receiver because it did not have a receiver ID). Unfortunately, the 3 local dealers cannot help me (no time, no laptop, just get a new one).

We are leaving on vacation next Wednesday and I must have my Directv otherwise there will be mayhem!!!

I am looking at 3 possibilities: 1 a Direct TV Dish that is sold for camping/tailgaiting, 2. A Winegard MP1 Portable which is what I am leaning towards or 3. A Winegard Portable Digital Antenna (which looks like the Directv).

As time is of the essence and we are all new to this, I would appreciate any advice any of you can give me as to which one would be the easiest and simplest to get my Directv programming.

I haven't given up on the in-motion KVH - just need something to get by right now.

Thanks for your help and patience with a newbie!

If you want to spend the money for the Wingard Carryout (MP1), then it will certainly work with DirecTV.

If by the "camping/tailgaiting" dish, you're talking about the unit that has the TV, dish, and receiver all in one unit, you will not be able to set that up inside since the dish portion needs to be able to *see* the satellite. If all you want to do is watch TV outside, rain or shine, then I guess that dish would be OK, too.

I don't know what you mean by your third choice. Is that dish an open-faced dish with one LNB? If so, that would certainly be the least expensive way to go, although it would require you to sight in the satellite manually.

You don't say anything about HD programming, but I assume you know that you will not be able to get DirecTV HD programming with ANY dome...?

If your KVH is the SF model, it is not an in-motion antenna, stationary only. If the dealer told you anything different, they are lying or badly misinformed.

I recently purchased the Winegard Carry-Out to use when my KVH is blocked by trees and etc. I absolutely love it. It was easy to set up and works better than my rooftop KVH. It comes confirgured for DirecTV from the factory.
