I have the Anser and should have got the tailgater. The tailgater will toggle 3 sat while the anser will only lock in on one. However, you can hook up to two tv's with the anser not with the tailgater

I totally agree on the "RVing" thing. Sounds like the Carryout will be a good choice for us. Do you notice much interference from rain and weather with your Carryout?

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I will scratch the Anser off my list.

Hi Sarah..
It will sometime pixilate the picture during heavy rain.. I think that is a problem with all smaller dishes inside a dome.. Not really a big deal.. I keep the dome waxed so it sheds water..
I have used the "Park" Cable hook up (I think that is what you are asking) and use the cable end in the overhead bin to connect the cable from there.. It all depends where I am going to have to put the Carry Out. I have one of those "Flat" cable things to go through the drivers toll window if I am going out the front.. I have been meaning to run a cable out the front from the overhead so I can just connect the Carry Out from there.. My Previous coach had this kind of connection..
Overall it has always performed as well as my roof top dishes have done.. There are times in heavy rain they didn't work either but normally very rarely..
And in fact it locked onto a signal quicker than my roof top units..
Ron

Can't answer about the domes yet, still using the OEM Wingard roof unit.
On our DSDP we have a BOMB and two connections for coax outside. One is in the electrical bay and is set for cable TV or I can also hook up a dish to it. Then all I need to do is get the buttons on the BOMB set.
The other is in a curb side storage bay and is for a TV under there. To use it to receive signals from a dish I have to switch coax around in the stereo cabinet and set the BOMB correctly.

You need to add the Winegard Pathway x2 to your list. It will automatically find either the DISH Eastern Arc or Western Arc satellites, and it is less expensive than the Winegard Carryout. It will feed two receivers as long as the channels selected are on the same sat.

Sarah, we have used the 1518 carry out for awhile, works fine as long as you don't mind watching the same satellite on multiple TV's, switches almost seamlessly to the different satellites when you change channels. As for weather, in hard rain you are going to lose reception just as you would at home on a regular dish. Since we have a 5th wheel it has a separate input for satellite which goes directly to the receiver so don't have to deal with the other stuff. In fact we have ours set up so we can have cable, off air, and satellite and use the switchbox to switch between those as needed for the different TV's. I can watch satellite in the living room while wife watches the same satellite program in the bedroom or different program on cable or off air at the same time.
If it were me and using dish, I think I would just buy the tailgater for those times you needed an extra antenna for getting a signal. One thing is the fact that the tailgater gets its power from the coax, the carryout has its own extra cable that has to go to a 12 volt plug in which IMHO makes the tailgater better. Other than that they seem to work the same. I forgot to mention that the 1518 will work with both direct and dish but the tailgater only works with dish. Hope this rambling helps!

Thanks again, Ron. Yes, I mean the "park cable" hookup. So you can wax the dome and not interfere with the signal? I was wondering about water-shedding products.

I was wondering if you would show up!! Thanks again for your tips about the Dish pay-as-you-go deal in my previous thread. That has worked out GREAT for us.
I will definitely check out the Pathway x2; is that a dome type? I appreciate the help.

Thanks so much! The "rambling" really does help! I had been wondering whether the TailGater has the 12-volt plug so thanks for that.
I wonder if the shape of the Tailgater will work better in the rain? Our rooftop dome is practically useless, even in light rain. It is black or smoke color, and I wonder if that plus the raindrops messes up the signal.

I can't speak as to the color but my experience has shown that the lock or signal strength has more to do with how much rain it takes to kill the signal than any other thing. Same with the signal at home, if the antenna is aligned better it takes more rain to kill it, on the road the 1518 seems to do a great job in the rain but it all depends on how much signal you have. When you have a marginal signal as when trees are a problem or something like that then you will lose it in lighter rain VS when you have a solid signal it takes more rain. Since I have not used a tailgater can't speak to whether it is better or worse in the rain on full signal or otherwise.
Good luck on your research!

I have a 211K and Tailgater...going on 2 years old, running fulltime. It has not failed and is so easy to use with 1 wire for the raw SAT feed and 12volts for auto aim.
It locks to all 3 Dish birds and changes channels like cable TV.
Unlike the Tailgater, the Ansur will feed 2 receivers, but only locks on 1 bird at a time I think. This is where the extra price comes from, I think.
The Tailgater will let you watch 1 TV show in playback and record 1 at the same time -requires a compatible external hard drive of up to 1terabyte and 1 time hard drive authorization from a call to Dish customer svs.
I have only lost signal 1 time while watching HD in a heavy Texas electrical storm...but the SD channels was readable.
We LOVE the Tailgater-ViP-211k set because it is so easy to use and because of the auto aim feture, we almost dont use the manual Winegard rooftop dish anymore.
Best luck.
BTW, the Tailgater works on the 211, 211k, and 411...gotta have the auto aim software/function.

Thanks again, Tom. We have cable TV at home so all the satellite stuff is a mystery to me. I am beginning to think the KVH TracVision dome that came on our RV is marginal quality.
I appreciate everyone's kindness.

Thanks for all the info! It's nice to hear that you have had good service for 2 years! The Tailgater seems to get good reviews and it is high on my list. Is the cable for the Tailgater 50' long? I read that the new Winegard Pathway x2 cable is 25', and I wonder if that will be sufficient length.
