Problems with my Nomad 2

This coach had an HD TV and an HD antenna and Nomad 2 box when I bought it. The dish and Nomad 2 were new and not installed. I had them installed at home and pulled into Satellite Advantage in Quartzsite to buy a Direct box and have it activated, and to have them show me how to work it.

First they ran the box through its paces, then they upgraded the software. After that the box stopped working. They were not much help, told me that it might be a bad box and a new one was $800. They didn't seem to know how to tell if it was a bad box, or if they can be repaired.

Is there anyone here in Q or over in Phoenix that really knows this stuff. Please note that I am NOT suggesting that they broke it, just that they didn't seem to have a clue what to do if it didn't work. The boss was out, so that may have made things worse.

If it is less than 3 years old then you are still under warranty. You mention HD and an HD antenna. If you are speaking of the MotoSAT HD antenna you would not have a Nomad 2. Could you clarify what it is that you have for antenna and controller?

This is a case of "silly me", it is a Motosat HD Featherlite antenna (I have had several people say they have never seen one, but it is an oval dish and it is pretty much like all the other Motosat HD antennaes just that this one has "Featherlight" painted on it) and the controller is a Nomad 2 (I confused it wiht the internet dish controller).

It could be less than 3 years old, can't really tell with the paper work I have on it, but thanks for that bit of info.

I am going back to Satellite Advantage tomorrow - the boss is back and he is clearly more knowledgable than his installers. They do seem very nice and genuinely would like to help. They don't seem to have any repair bench capabilities from what I could see.

Bill...I am unsure what you mean about not havinga Nomad2 with a MotoSat HD antenna.
What was it that you saw on our coach in QZ?

Well, until now, I would have said it was a Nomad 3. It doesn't seem possible that MotoSAT has gone through the Nomad 2, Nomad 3, Nomad SD and now Nomad SD2 in only 2 years but clearly I must be mistaken.

It has been 2 years this month since we had the SL5 and the Nomad2 installed...so wow... many changes in that 2 years!

The Nomad may be able to be rebuilt by Motosat. They rebuild them for customers for $60. Don't know if you are a customer, but whoever you use as the ISP may have a similar offer.

Hope that helps some,
Walt

No ISP. Back in Feb. we were talking about a MotoSAT TV antenna.

Right, but Motosat should still do a rebuild for $60. I spoke to them yesterday about my Nomad 2. They said they no longer use/buy Nomad 2 or Nomad 3, said they had 'the same type of problems with both' and only use Nomad SD.

That's true, but there is was no indication that there was anything wrong with his Nomad that would require rebuilding either. They have had the exact same software problems with the Nomad 2, Nomad 3, Nomad SD and the current Nomad SD2.

I have the Motosat HD SL5 with Nomad 2. Sometimes it locks on within a few minutes and sometimes it will not lock on. Should I discard it all or get the latest controller?
