Procedure for Using DirecTV Winegard Trav'ler?

When using my tripod I would get the dish as close as possible then I would plug in my receiver. Most of the time I had to make only minor adjustments. I always unplug my receiver as I break camp and head to the next campground. I don't want the receiver searching for the satellites until I am ready for it to do so.

How would I do it with the Trav'ler?

You just have to shut it off and stow it.. It shuts all power off to it when it's stowed.. Switch the receiver off and you are all set..
Just don't forget to stow it before you move the coach.. BTW you must have 110 to it for point and stow etc. I shut the power off to it when it's connected as it doesn't need power to stay locked..
I really enjoy mine.. Even works when partially blocked with branches.. Mine is set up for DirecTV

I have the Dish Travler but it works the same as yours. When I arrive at a new location I level the RV, plug in the power cord and then "activate" the Travler. By the time I finish setting up, the Travler is locked on.

So I would activate the Trav'ler and once it is up I would then plug in the power to the receiver?

No need to unplug the receiver. Unless you have an inverter, it will shut down completely when you unplug the coach anyway. If you do have an inverter, it won't hurt the receiver to be on without a satellite lock.

When we had our Allegro Bay, it had an inverter that powered the entertainment center. We purposely left the inverterer on to power the receiver when we were on the road so the receiver would remember the channel guide. Once you cut the power, the receiver resets and looses the channel guide. It can take up to 24 hrs to get the whole thing back all the way out into the future.

I do have the receiver as well as the dish control plugged into an inverter outlet. If I leave the power on for the receiver won't it get an error notice for not finding the signal?

That is the best way to not confuse the receiver.
I found it works best to even unplug the receiver before stowing the Trav'ler.

That's what I do in order to prevent what you describe below.

It will, but it doesn't hurt anything. If you want to save power, unplug it. Otherwise just forget about it.

I never unplug ours.

My receiver is a DVR which is a hard drive storage unit like a computer. After two hard drive crashes I realized it was caused by not powering it down while driving. The road jarring of the spinning disc caused the crash. I now power down before leaving.

This makes since. I have a new DVR so I will power it down.

What I do not know is will the Trav'ler search and get locked on the satellites without the receiver being on? I could start the Trav'ler where it will be working while I am connecting my water/sewer lines. Then I could turn on the receiver while I am setting up the rest of my stuff.

The Trav'ler does NOT need the receiver to lock on. There is no connection from any receiver to the Winegard control box.

I always turn off my two DVR-recievers before travelling and I do NOT lose the channel guide. It is right there when I turn the receiver back on. I only have the guide download issue if my receiver is off for a week or more.

That's a difference between DVR units which can save the guide data to the hard drive, and non-DVR units which can't. OTOH, you don't have to worry about bouncing the disk drive with a non-DVR, so leaving it on doesn't hurt.

I put foam strips under my HR34 Genie to absorb road bumps. No problems leaving it on.
