We are just finishing uo the installation of the new Sony 32" in front and next comes the VCR replacement.
The current VCR has one lead coming from the distribution panel and one going back to it.
If I'm going to replace the VCR with a DVD player or DVR do I use the same in and out leads?
In case it matters we do not use satelite (yet). Only park service cable or converter box service for now.

bdaball (Bill)-

I threw the distribution panel out when I did my TV update. I put a second DirectTv receiver in the bedroom and now we can each watch what we want too - when we want too-- . I put a Bluray DVD player in the front and the rear 26" HDTV has a built in DVD player. I'm now thinking of adding a second satellite line to the rear receiver so I can use the DirectTv DVR receiver I left at home (it requires a seperate line input from the satellite antenna).

Hang in there Bud!

Cheers,

Chances are a new DVR will not have a 75 ohm coax output so you won't be able to connect it to the Winegard distribution switch. It will have a 75 ohm input for an antenna, but the outputs will be HDMI or component video, and maybe composite video. You can get a box that will convert other connections to 75 ohm coax, but you will loose a lot of the advantages of HD.

I think you can get an HDMI splitter - run one leg to the front TV and one to the back. The TV remote should have a button to select TV input. Video 1 is uaually the antenna (75 ohm coax). Video 2, Video 3, etc. will be marked on the back of the TV for the various sets of connectors. Use the button on the remote to select the input (Video 1 for antenna, Video 2 for DVR, etc.) instead of the Winegard switch. Do away with the Winegard box as Max suggests.
