Quick Find at lower left corner of screen

Occasionally when I start to type something the arrow drops down to a box in the lower left hand corner of my laptop screen that says "Quick Find". I don't know what causes this or what I'm supposed to do with it, even when I finish typing in the box where it's supposed to go.

Anyone have any experience with this? It just started a few months ago on my 4 year old HP laptop with Vista. Could it be caused by a recent Foxfire update?

I started having problems with my laptop, and found if you go into the mouse settings, and click "disable touchpad when another pointing device is attached" will stop this. Of course, you would have to have an external mouse connected to the laptop for this to work.

This happens when I'm using the touch pad as I very seldom use the external mouse. I wouldn't want to diable the touchpad.

I presume by lower left hand corner that you mean the lower left hand corner of the Firefox window. If so, this is accessed by typing Control-F, and it allows you to search the currently loaded web page.

I'm not sure you can disable it, but there should be a "X" to the left of the "Find:" that allows you to close the find toolbar.
