Are you sure there's no new maps?
My 7710 and 7720 had map updates this month when I docked them...there seems to be routine software and map updates, so I dock them monthly at least.

You gotta plug the RVND GPS's into a computer to update the maps/load software updates/download trips/update the Ask SAM data...etc.
There should have been 2 cords come with the GPS - a 12Volt power cord and a USB cord.
When you plug the RVND into the computer (USB cord), it loads and starts the "Rand McNally Dock" program and walks you through everything...SO EASY!!

I just docked my 7720 and there were no new maps available, just the construction, speed limit and other mundane ones.

Fred, thanks for the link. My RVND is integrated into the dash, but there must be a way to update it. That will be my next project after I get my TV's working properly.

I had looked for updates with the GPS plugged(docked) in not plugged in. I went to your link and the software updated but still no map updates? I much prefer the Garmin.

Both of our RVND's have lifetime maps - titled LM in the sales material...was an $80 upgrade sold separately in the past.
We got the LM as part of the sale when new. So, that could be part of the issue for some.
LM was included in the 7720/5 and 7730/5...see:
http://www.randmcnally.com/pages/lifetime-maps
You must "register" for the LM on the docking program for it to work
I have no info on those with the RVND built-in, but it's gotta be part of the manual when new.
And as said - there appear to be map updates. Just gotta figure it out for your unit.

Maybe a call to RM customer service or PM Rand McSam here:

Dan, Mine is also built in. On the right side are two flexible covers. One covers a USB port (I think) and the other, the top one, covers the slot for an SD memory card. Take the memory card out, (push in lightly and it will pop out), download the dock program, launch it, insert the card into a slot or card reader on your computer, and updates should proceed.
Good luck!

I checked for news maps last week before we left for warmer climates. There were construction updates but no new maps. Yet, when we turn the GPS on it says the map database is over a year old and to check for a new one. As of a week ago, there was no new one. We do have lifetime maps which shows up but alas, no new maps. We have just traveled 1800 miles and unfortunately, Rand led us astray many times. For instance in Cahokia IL, turn left instead of right to get to the Good Sam Cahokia RV Parque. That is just one example. It is disappointing to say the least. Nothing is perfect, but this is really exasperating.

If there is an error on the Rand McNally GPS, the unit offers the "Tell Rand" function...another reason to dock it, so they get the data.
We have never needed to use the Tell Rand function, but know it is there.
To compare, we have had Garmin units since the old Street Pilot (still have a Nuvi)...they never wanted customer feedback
