I' ve not had a reception problem with my old (4 years) Garmin in our Class C with the big overhang. Will anything change with this new unit? Seems like a lot of hassle if an external antenna is needed.

I have experienced ocassional signal loses with every Garmin I've ever owned. I have never experienced a signal loss with the 7710, and now the 7720, even when I was setting them up while I was on the first floor of a two story house.

Received my 7720 yesterday and am impressed so far.

One question pops up ...... When the unit is on the charger does the red charge light go out or turn green when it's fully charged?

BTW, Bob .. Thanks for the reviews and help you provide.

No. To see the state of battery charge you need to disconnect it from AC power. You will then see a battery icon at the top of the screen.

You're very welcome. Be sure and download the manual. It contains well written instructions for all the functions.

As for me, I like to set things up the night before I travel and I usually would have the curtains closed. Also, when traveling in heavily wooded areas the rooftop antenna always worked great. So for me, not having a rooftop antenna is a deal breaker and I'd just keep my 7200,
Please keep us informed.

You will need the MMCX connector for the back of the 7720..... Garmins have the MCX Connector

Gilsson has the Antenna for the 7720 with the MMCX Connector........... I found out too late and got mine from China with the MCX to MMCX Connector.

What would be interesting to know is what, if any, difference you see in the GPS State and Satellites Used/Seen, with and without the antenna connected.

Why would anyone in a MH need to use a antenna with the 7720?

If it can't get a enough signal from sitting on a dash to work.
Then I don't think I will get one. And just keep my old 2210 Street Pilot that works fine on the dash.

I don't know why you'd need an antenna. We've had our 7710 for a year and it's never lost a signal without any additional antenna.
