Looking for any opinions/comments on the new Rand McNally 7710 GPS. Has anyone used it for long trips? Performance rating? Any info before I spend money on another GPS will be appreciated.

Used ours for the first time a couple days ago for a 400 mile trip. I still have a lot to learn, but what I've seen so far I like. Things like, it will show upcoming rest areas well in advance of getting there, right on the moving map. Beats trying to flip through the exit guide to see what's ahead, especially if you're alone with no co-pilot. When I saw one come up that I wanted to stop at I just hit the icon with my finger and I can add it as a "via", the GPS will then route me into the rest stop and then resume the original route as I'm leaving the rest area. It will also show campgrounds, Walmarts and many more points of interest, as directed by you, on the moving map and the same applies; hit the icon with your finger and it will route you there.

I also like the speed change warnings and its the first I've owned (I know there are others) that warns me of upcoming construction areas well in advance of getting there, and a lot of other handy features not available 8 - 10 years ago when we bought our still well functioning Garmin.

By the way, like others have mentioned, I went to Best Buy and bought a doo-dad that sits on the dash, anywhere you want it, and the suction cup mount bracket sticks to it. They had a variety of types and styles, you could probably accommodate just about any dash style.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. Seems Rand McNally is listening, lots of the early complaints are fixed on my unit. Power cord and on/off switch has moved to the right side of the unit as well as the reset button. The unit also takes measurements for the RV specifications in feet now vice inches. The only thing I had to convert was the propane from gallons to lbs. Can't wait to get on the road to check out the routing features.

Does anyone know of any deals for the 7710 that includes lifetime maps? Many other GPS makers include map updates for free. Camping world no longer offers them with lifetime maps.

Mine doesn't say anything about "Limited" maps. Could be wrong

Life time maps appear to be an option that many are selling for an additional 80 to 1000 bucks of the Tripmaker. I have been waiting for a really good price to order a Tripmaker w/ 7 inch screen. Prices seem to be going UP. CW was 359, no 379, that isn;t a deal. ed

Talked with Camping World customer service and they have a special deal at the $359.99 price that include lifetime maps. The unit includes an activation number on a card. Not a bad deal.

I bought mine at Camping World for $359. but didn't find anything about lifetime maps. I set it all up, works great but need to take a trip for a real test.
