RDP connections

Calling all IT/Tech Support experts...

Does anyone use their hotspot for remote desktop (RDP) connections?

I have been researching going full time, but need to ensure I have a fast enough service that I can connect to the corporate office via RDP. The good news is I would have the remote workstation so that the heavy data lifting would be done on the other side and I would only be using the thin client. (My apologies if this is too much tech speak.)

I am looking at the Verizon Jetpack™ 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4620L and realize that campground and other free wifi may need to be used from time to time. The promoted speeds for 4G look good, I would just like to confirm that this is actually being used and get any feedback.

Also, if anyone tried this with 3G or Satellite, please let me know. I am not sure 3G or Satellite would be fast enough.

Thanks,
Rod

Verizon jetpac will work great. You will be able to download and print just as you do at home. Speed is great.Just be sure you are in a spot to recieve a good verizon signal.

I use RDP over my wireless card and hotspots all the time. I also use VNC through Zebedee all the time... Sometimes they can be a little slow but it works great

It is less expensive over time to get the iPad form Verizon and tether to it. A Gb is $10 using the iPad.

Thank you for the feedback. I was looking at getting an Ipad too, so will definitely check out the tethering.

Cheers,
Rod

I use VNC and Hamachi to remotely access a computer at home that is controlling a ham radio station, plus Skype to handle the voice. Works well over limited bandwidth connections.

If you are not knowing of Hamachi, it is a VPN software that uses a mediation server to establish peer-to-peer connections over UDP. Works like a SIP server - sets up the comms between the end points, then the end points comm directly thereafter. Eliminates issues of inbound connections.
