Recording from campsite cable

Many campsites have cable for TV. Obviously this is unscrambled so that TV can be viewed without a cable box.
How can I record programs from the cable? Do I go with TiVo or something like that?

thanks

David

Are you getting analog or digital channels?

Analog you can use a VCR or any similar recorder. Digital needs a DVR box.

Tivo sells a simple box that works like a TiVo box without programming. It's a OTA. We have one, it can stream Nextflix, Amazon and Hulu.

I’m thinking digital as the site we wintered at last year (and will be there this coming winter) was digital I believe.
Also OTA is HD here in Canada.

I just got an NVIDIA Shield streaming device to replace my Roku in the coach, which will allow me to stream Netflix, etc. It will also function as my Plex Media Server, eliminating the need for a PC to handle the media server chore. Supposedly you can add a USB tuner, and use it like a DVR, but I have not pursued that option yet. Some of the USB tuners have a QAM tuner for unscrambled digital cable. I don't know if it can handle analog cable. With Directv and supplementing it with OTA, both with DVR's, I don't use park cable very often.

I think Tivo dropped its support for cable cards with the OTA model.

OTA is the same here. The issue is that the cable companies supply both so I would assume that the parks can easily convert digital back to analog as a "service" to their customers if the equipment in the park has a problem with digital. That excuse could be getting thin given the time since analog only TV's were produced. Without looking I think they have been combo tuners since around the mid 2000's.
