Renogy MT-5 Solar Monitor Issues

Hey - I've installed a Renogy MPPT40. The charging unit seems to be functioning okay (no error lights on the charger). I've added a MT-5 Tracer as well for additional control and information about my system. However, when I connect the MT-5 to the charger all it does is flash and blink. Pushing the buttons doesn't change anything.

Does all this flashing and whatnot indicate my monitor is messed up? Is my charger messed up? Am I messed up? The instructions, such as they are, don't mention the situation I'm experiencing here.

I've posted a video if you'd like to see what I'm talking about.

I don't have a Renogy system.....

From what I see your meter uses a RJ45 connection and the problem could be from the controller or the meter. Call or contact Renogy and they will likely be able to help.

You have a four stage controller. Take a Multimeter and make sure you are getting correct voltage at the batteries depending on what mode your controller is. Your controller has lights and Led (I think) to tell you what mode it is in.

If you haven't done it yet you could try resetting the controller.

Good luck.

Okay - figured it out. The charger didn't know what kind of battery I had (gel, sealed, flooded).

However, now I am doubting the usefulness of an extra monitoring panel that couldn't tell me that this was the problem. I wonder if Renogy offers a second monitor to help me monitor what the first monitor is doing.

I spoke too soon. It's doing it again. I need to sort through this and see if I can find a triggering event for this weirdness.

Call the Company support line. Or do you have the manual available to review. After looking at the manual, I am guessing communication error
