RF Mogul questions

I have had a Winegard Traveler Dish on my motorhome for the last 3 years and have had nothing but problems with it. It has been replaced 3 times and I still have trouble. Now, I am getting a AZ Motor Stalled error. I've talked to Winegard and since my original dish was installed 3 years ago, it is not covered by a warranty (even though this particular dish is only 8 months old!) .... anyway, I'm considering changing to a RF Mogul unit and want to get some input on how happy you are with the system if you have it. Thanks in advance! Lynn

We got our RF Mogul installed in early June (3 months ago), and it's been fine. It sets itself up in 5 to 6 minutes and shuts off. The signal is usually very good, with very few times we need to use a carry-out dish to dodge trees.

We are using two Wally receivers instead of the Hopper and Joey we had planned on. The reason is that we have, in the past, needed a carry-out (X2 Pathways), and the X2 does not work with Hoppers.

This winter I will get a manual carry-out dish to set up on a tripod whenever needed. The Hopper has many good advantages over the Wally, but we get by for now. The X2 will get offered for sale or barter, probably along with the Wallys.

With regard to problems with the dish units, the RF Mogul is modular, and can be repaired on the roof if needed. I changed out the DPP (little horns on the dish that collect the signal from the reflector) on mine when I decided not use the Hopper.

I hope this helps some. The people at RF Mogul are great to work with and have repair and upgrade parts in stock.

Tom

I realize this thread is several weeks old, but I wanted to report on this week's findings. We were in a park with a LOT of trees. We found the best site we could and set up. There was a weather front moving across, but we thought we should get a signal. The RF Mogul locked on to the satellites with no problem, but the rainfall was torental until about 10:00 PM. Then, suddenly we had all channels.

I'm guessing that the water on the leaves blocked the signal too much until the rain stopped. After that it was good for the remainder of out three day stay.

The pictures show what we were seeing through. I'm impressed! I don't sell these things, but I will recommend them.

Tom

I'm sorry about the rotated images. I did rotate them upright in the file, but it got twisted again.

I'm using the RF Mogul Eagle 1 controller with my OEM MotoSat HD dish. When the MotoSat quits I can get the RF Mogul top end and have the Eagle 1 controller reprogrammed.

Mr. D, I'm not positive, but I think that the components for your MotoSat are largely the same ad RF Mogul's. If it does die, you may be able to resurrect it easily.

Nope, too many differences.

I've had absolutely no problems with my Winegard Trav'ler SK3005 in nearly 7 years of daily use. You can purchase a lemon made by any manufacturer.
