Be sure to read all of their claims. The 7-mile range also assumes a 8.5dB outdoor antenna (about 18" long) and a "quality" hotspot. In addition, a clear line of sight to the hotspot is assumed (remember this is on water). Range will be reduced considerably by buildings, trees, other RV, etc.
Note that it does not support N technology, only b/g. Otherwise the idea is very good and what is used in other range boosters. High frequencies (2.4GHz) attenuate very rapidly in antenna cable, so they put the bridge at the bottom of the antenna. Then an Ethernet cable is used to provide power and transport the data to a little adapter that joins the power and Ethernet cable to your computer.
One advantage that sailboats have is a tall mounting point for the antenna (the mast).
Another, very similar approach that might be cheaper is the RadioLabs "Bullet" ($125 plus cost of antenna, approx $100) or the WaveRV ($170). In my mind the drawback of the WaveRV is that it uses a USB cable for connection, but then that is how it gets its power.
