I've had a couple over the last 3 or 4 years and it is a decent product, but now use our PS3s for streaming. The Playstation is great for DVDs, Blueray as-well-as streaming AND will do 3D if the firmware is kept up.

If you are looking, check eBay.com. There's hundreds for sale ....... and several models, too.

I use it and I love it. I own three of them, two in the stix-n-brix, one in the RV. What do you want to know?

We have a Roku and love it. At home. A lot of campgrounds block streaming over their wifi networks because of the bandwidth load and it will run through your limit pretty quick on Verizon or whatever cell service you have.
Streaming media for RVs is not ready for prime time yet.

What do we need to use it in the camper? We use the Verizon hot spot for our Internet. Is the streaming current programming? Do you use Hula and how much?

Thanks

I just got one and it's great. Thousands of movies and tv shows for under $20 a month. If you want to use it in your rv then you will need a router/repeater to get a good signal. The basic air cards won't work well because you will use up all your bandwidth in a short time. For home use they are great and I'm ready to say goodbye to cable...

What Roku channels are you subscribing to? I get Netflix and Amazon, but I don't thin theres a way to get most current network programming without buying it from Amazon.

Netflex, Hulu-plus, cast tv, crackle, SpreetyGood, Wanna watch it now, Gawker and since I have Comcast internet and still have a Brighthouse email address I can get both on demand channels for free with all kinds of tv shows and movies.

All the networks and on demand have their shows on but just a week behind but for the price, I don't care. We just watched raising Hope for free which you can't get unless you pay for it with cable. I love it. The video and sound are as good as cable if not better and losing the $102 tv cable bill a month is great. Wish I'd found this sooner.

It took us a few weeks to figure it all out but there isn't a movie or tv show that we can't get and we are paying only $17.88 a month for it all. Another great thing is you don't have to record anything because it's always there when you want to watch it. If you want to watch live sports it may be a different story but I don't watch sports.

You have the right idea And, with HD OTA, you get 99.9% of everything..

Billieg, how does the router/ repeater work? Does that connect to the Verizon hotly? We would still need Directv?.

The router/repeater uses a 6' antenna to pick up wifi signals and amplifies them. The router I use can't hook up to an air card by itself but can be hooked up with a different interface.

Almost everywhere I go I get 15 -25 wifi signals some locked, some open. As long as you can get a signal the router will amp it and work great. The whole reason for the Roku is to get away from cable/satellite tv but you need a good connection to the internet. At home with Comcast the Roku works great. I haven't tried it on the road yet but if I can get a good wifi signal it should work well there too.

What most people don't know is all your tv shows and movies are on the internet. Some free, some you pay for. For $9.95 a month you can get Netflex and enjoy over 4000 movies and tv shows. There are many other sites that have the same, some free and all cable companies have "on demand" where you can get all the tv shows and older movies most for free. The only difference is most tv shows are a week old but all the episodes are there so you can watch them when you want to without commercials.

As the wifi gets stronger and more people get tired of paying for commercials I suspect streaming video will become the next frontier. If you watch a tv show without commercials it takes about 12 minutes to watch a half hour show. I saw that Netflex had all episodes of Bonanza, I love Lucy and many other old great shows.

I just canceled Comcast tv today but kept the internet. I'll save $102 a month and still get to see all my favorite shows and movies when I want to watch them without commercials .

You can try it out right now for free to see how it works:

Have not purchased yet but found that Western Digital has a couple of units that seem to have more features than some of the others. Their basic unit is 100 and the top end that comes with a hard drive is 200 (prices at Best Buy).

Roku is the best and has the most chnnels...The WD can be hacked to do other things.

Netflix streaming is now $8 a month (and over 40,000 titles), as is hulu plus.. Amazon prime is $79 a year and gives you free 2 day shipping to boot..
