RV GPS MH Length?
I just received the new Garmin RV 780 today and am wondering if I should input my length with or without the toad. I'm assuming over-all length with the toad if I'm traveling with the toad but wanted to make sure. I don't want to limit myself too much in route finding.

Hope others chime in. I never really considered the toad as inclusive when I programmed mine so, I just have the coach length. 770RV

I only put my coach lenth in. I don't think it matters that there is a toad out back GPSwise.
Plus the GPS might think you have a much bigger turn radius if you make your coach 65 feet long.

That was my impression but I wanted to make sure.

Took a recent trip of about 100 miles out and back using my Garmin 770.
Trip out used MH length only. No notifications of anything incompatible from the Garmin and no issues on the route.
Coming home on same route I added toad length. Garmin didn't reroute me but every few miles it alarmed and warned of a possible grounding problem.
Went back to just MH length..

I created 2 profiles, with and without Toad. I usually use the w/Toad profile. In far west coast there are some road where overall length is restricted.

That seems like a decent idea. Why were the overall length restrictions in place? Sharp curves? Congested towns? Just wondering.

For some reason, my RV 780 didn't come with a full user manual. I downloaded one and, low and behold, there's a vehicle type "Motorhome with Trailer" so I loaded both the bare motorhome and one with trailer. I assume this would eliminate the risk of an overly large turning radius. It's too bad they don't have a selection for a motorhome with a toad since it's more restrictive than a typical trailer in that you can't back up.

I wish they had a weight setting. I was routed down a road with a restricted bridge weight. Lucky I read the sign. It was a Garmin 780!

Interesting...my 770 has a weight entry. Sure your 780 doesn’t?

I have my Rand McNally 7730 set for overall length of both. I get over-length warnings in many states, as I'm 65' overall. It really doesn't help, because the RM will only route me on roads agreeable to my height and weight. I have avoided state roads with length limits under 40' due to tight winding curves, like SE out of Sedona, AZ. towards Quartzite.

Narrow roads and very sharp curves seem to be the biggest factor.
