RV GPS route app
Anyone have a favorite app for rv routes? I use Waze and google maps right now but with getting a bigger rv I am now looking for an app that takes into account which roads you can travel? Since I'm pretty sure the propane tanks aren't allowed in such things like tunnels.
Or a bridge clearance
Toll roads
.....
All the stuff car drivers don't think about

Stay on "red" routes and you will be assured of clearances. The tunnels I have gone through with propane restrictions usually have an inspection station to make sure the propane is turned off. Unfortunately there is no place on the other side to turn it back on.
If there is a road you wish to travel on then look at it with google maps. Same with campgrounds. I use a Garmin.

I use Copilot on my tablet. There is a "normal" version that can be set for RV's, but will not take the weight into consideration, and there is a RV version, and a truck version with all possible bells and whistles.

The Baltimore tunnels prohibit propane even if turned off, so it is necessary to know in advance to avoid them and take an alternate route.

I use the Sygic Truck app and have added a "Low Clearance" data base. So far, everything has worked well. I love the Sygic Truck app. It keeps me out of trouble.

That one seems to be a subscription based. I am more leaning towards the 1 time fee for an iPhone

navi apps
I use CoPilot RV it is app basedfor android and IPhone. Works well even has version for PC for pre planning. You can download maps by regions or full US just make sure you have storage space on your phone.
Last summer traveled up east coast into New England and also to Midwest had no issues

I use copilot for at least 6 years now, and never had any problem.
I run it on an Android tablet that has a GPS receiver build in,

For apps, the choices are pretty much CoPilot, Sygic and Smart RV Route 2.
Sygic does not have propane restricted routing in their RV version. You have to buy their truck version and select Hazmat rating 2 for that feature. It's based on HERE maps so the quality of the maps will be on par with Garmin. They don't seem to update their maps as frequently as Garmin does though. Sygic has a traffic service as well.
CoPilot is the most complete solution but just a caution that their maps are not that great. You'll find a lot of old map errors if maps of the quality of Google, HERE or TomTom is your reference point. The RV version is the only one that actually takes RV size and weight into account in the routing. It also handles propane restricted tunnels. Don't buy CoPilot without buying the Inrix traffic subscription which allows you to activate historical traffic flow rates (ActiveRoutes) in the RV profile. The CoPilot ETAs are pretty laughable without this add-on subscription. A disappointment has been that CoPilot RV has basically received no app updates for nearly a year.
Smart RV Route 2 is a really interesting option. It runs over the top of Google Maps and applies RV routing restrictions to Google Maps. It's online though so you need a data connection. But the roads are as current as Google Maps. Downside is that the traffic is informational only. It's not used in the routing or ETA.
There are many other apps in the app store but most are eastern Europe developers that really don't understand the US market very well. It's hard to figure out the source of their maps, the age of them and the update frequency.

I did not experience this during all my driving. I always run my TomTom GPS along with the Copilot, and have not experienced any map error problems so far!
