RVND 7710 Big Update

For those of you with an RVND 7710 GPS (and probably the 5510 though I don't know for sure) there is a BIG updated available when you next dock to your PC. Be advised... it's big. Looks like it transfered over 80 files including a map update and some changes/fixes. Took me about an hour for the whole process. You don't want to think about this one unless you are fully charged and on a fairly high speed Inet connection. Not sure if the times reflected busy servers at RM or what... my cable modem lights were going non-stop the whole time.

My experience:

1) starting the update causes a full 'file validate' 5 mins or so?

2) the download for me was about 45 minutes, and I'm on a cable modem. Some of the files were really big and took 5-10 mins at a couple points just for one file. Just saying let it chug.

3) the transfer to the 7710 over USB took another 15 mins

4) when done, my software version went from 11.98.2310.1616 to 12.4.2428.2149

5) 15 changes in the release notes, won't list them all here but looks like they added some new minor features, fixed some things like Avoid State, speeded up POI searches, and a full map update. One nice update is that they now differentiate on downloaded POIs between "Alerts" and "General" where the alerts are things on your route (they use the example of Red Light Cameras) versus general info on things that could be 10 miles away and nice to know.

For what it's worth...

Does not appear to be for the 5510, just connected mine and it says I'm up to date.

Thanks for posting the notification of this update. Here are a couple things I ran across.

When I first connected to the dock it showed an update was available, which turned out to be just the usual construction update. When I returned to the home screen, it showed I was up to date. I restarted the dock software, and it then showed a map update was available. After about two hours on my DSL connection, it loaded the map update, the software version went to 12.4.2428.2149, as the OP posted, and the dock version went from 1.0.4525.16336 to 1.0.4561.24705.

It did remove all of my custom POIs, which isn't a big deal as I can reload them, but I thought I would mention it.

Now for some testing on our next trip

Guess I might have to try again because when I did dock this AM, it says my 7710 is up to date but the version is still 11.98.2310.1616. Sent a note though to RM inquiring about it.

You probably need to update your dock software

I also show that my device is up to date even though it is not the latest version. I did go onto the web site and loaded latest version of Dock software. After it still shows incorrect latest version. I am sending an inquiry to Support. Any other suggestions. Thanks

Are you registered for lifetime map updates?

The only other thing I can think of you trying is to run the system check in the tools screen. It detects and repairs bad files, and maybe something is not letting you update.

Just a wag, no reason to think this will help, but it's something you can try while awaiting Rand Support.

Send a message via AIM to stearn
I just updated took about fifty minutes! I have needed to call support on a couple occasions, and am impressed with the quick response. Oh and they were in Chicago, not some foreign country!!

Mine did the same thing. I called RM and found out that I was not registered for the lifetime maps! I had to send them a copy of my purchase invoice from CW and they took care of it. Now when I turn on my Dock s/w there is a map update icon there beside the normal update icon. You might want to check with them just in case.
