RVND 7710/Lifetime Maps - Little Things . . .

Are important!!!! I subscribed to Rand McNally Lifetime Maps to be able to download preplanned trips from the Good Sam website's New Trip Planning function. First off, the new GS Trip planner was a bit troublesome but I overcame it. Then connected the RVND 7710 to my laptop, fired up the RVND Dock Software & hit the Good Same button & downloaded 5 different trips -- SUCCESS I thought. Unhooked the 7710 from the laptop & turned it on independently. It went thru its bootup process & displayed 33 custom POIS available but showed only one lower right clickable button "NOT TO DOWNLOAD AT THIS TIME" & what looked like a Clickable button with NO Title nor was it Clickable. Double & triple checked the RM instruction. So I called RM's 1-877 Tech Support Number & Cried my tale of woe.

Turns out all RM GPS's Do NOT update squat unless they are plugged into the 110V power source. Now where is that @#$%^&*( 110V Special USB Sized RM Plug charger?????

I upgrade ours frequently with just a regular USB cable from the laptop to the GPS.

Not the 7710 software but the Good Sam Trips POI.

Something is VERY WRONG with the answer RM's operator gave you. The 110VAC port is the same port as the USB and 12VDC port.

Sorry, you just can't do updates/trip loads on the 7710/15 or 7720/25 if plugged into the 110VAC charger...no other place to put the USB cable

I just updated my 7710 and 7720 this week with no problem. But I have not used the trip planner (we use a paper Altas for that and often don't stay on a plan beyond 1 day).

I would call RM back to get a new operator (hopefully) for the right answer

Bets luck

I agree that updates to come through the USB port from your computer. In fact I had a problem with my 7720 and called RM support. The tech was able to connect to my laptop, (via remote software) and determine that a key file was missing from my 7720. It somehow happened during a software update. The tech installed the missing file and my unit became functional again.
