RVND 7720 user question
I enjoy the size, brightness, and volume of my 7720. However its lack of ability to route plan is frustrating. On a recent trip east from Colorado Springs, I wanted to go on SR 24 to Limon, Colorado, and I-70 east, which is a much shorter more direct route. However the 7720 was adamant that I go on I-25 North to Denver then East on 1-70, which would have been about a 90 to 120 minute addition to the trip. I had to listen to the GPS attempting to make me go back for almost an hour before it finally gave up and rerouted the way I wanted to go. Does anyone know a way to specify the route that you wish to travel on this particular GPS.

Not an answer to your question but I find if I select the car mode I get a more direct route. At least I did near San Diego & Redding, CA and in Medford, OR. The RV setting took me "out of my" to get to the destinations. You might try the car mode to see if it makes a difference.

You might want to check your rig configuration in the setup. It may be trying to route you through a path that meets your configuration and desires in the setup. My rig to 50K with TOAD and my height is 13' so I don't get the routing that appears to be shortest because of low bridges or weight restrictions. When I try to "force" a route, I have found out why the GPS didn't want me to take that route. I saw the height and weight restrictions before I got myself into trouble. Lucky me so far.
I am very careful when I try to make the GPS do anything. That said, I know it is a computer and only does what it is programmed to do.
When that does not appear to be the issue, you can set an intermediate way-point along the path you want to go.
Warning, as I said nothing is perfect, but my 720 is pretty darn good and I have not been able to catch it wrong.

I do not have your model, but have the same problems with my model and so far I have not been able to do anything about it. Unless cussing it out counts.

As suggested, the only work around I have found is to pick a closer waypoint along the route. It's a pain. I tried changing to the car mode and that did not work for me.

I suppose setting up a multi-stop trip with way-points along the route you want would work. The other option, neither a slam dunk, is to use the "detour" function and keep deleting the suggested recalculated routes until the one you wants is programmed in.
From the 7720 manual:
Around a Specific Roadway
1. On the right side of the window, tap and to view
a list of roads in the current route.
2. Tap on one or more roadways to be avoided.
A check mark appears in front of each selected road.
3. Tap Detour to recalculate the route.

Sometimes it will let you select between two routes.

Just select the final destination, then select other destinations that take you on the route you want and set them as "Via" points. Works great!

A word of caution in using the waypoints - you need to remember you added them or you'll do like I did which is turn off intended the route because I added a "city" and ended up in downtown traffic looking for a route back to the highway. That added a few unnecessary turns and the time and distance. Opps! Well I wasn't in a hurry but did not need the city traffic.

I travel 24 during my recent vacation to Colorado. This was the first trip in 12 years I didn't use my gps. I hate all the new improvements that don't work. I miss the old Map and Go program. I use via's to get the correct route, but hate it.

OK, I played with the GPS and established a destination, then I chose a VIA point along the way. What happens when I get to the VIA point? Does it automatically revert to routing to the original destination from there without any more input from me? Can I establish other VIA points down the road ( fuel stops, etc. ) on the same trip, or will it mess them up?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob, I set a "via" same as you, I sort of panicked since the "original" route was gone. So, "go for it", when I reached the via point, I was routed to the destination. Just wasted another "gray hair" for nothing. fred
