I recently replaced the front 26" Sony LCD TV with a 32" Samsung LED TV and am very disappointed with the picture quality on the Samsung. After I bought it I set it up here at home using our DTV satellite box (SD). I thought the picture was a little fuzzy looking and not in sharp focus. I went ahead an installed it in my RV and when I use OTA with HD the picture and shapness are awesome, but with OTA SD it looks fuzzy to me. Is this possible, to have super sharp HD but blurry SD? I think the 26" Sony had a better picture. Too late now, but I wonder if it's got anything to do with going from 26 to 32? Does a larger and larger screen look fuzzier and fuzzier with size? Am I just nuts??

No, I actually like my three Samsungs, but my newest Sony beats all of them hands down. But to answer your question, I think you need to go to the setup menu and do some adjusting. In HD your picture resolution should be in the range of 1080. For SD you might try knocking it down to something lower if it does not automatically do it for you. Newer TV's have so many adjustments a person can get lost really fast, so only do one at a time. You could also allow the TV to do a auto setup and see what happens.

What you are seeing is the difference in resolution quality. HD is 1080 lines of resolution while SD is only 480 lines of resolution. That's why SD looks fuzzy on a HD capable TV.

I have the UN32D4000 TV.....if it's a 480p vrs 1080p issue, why did the 26" Sony picture look okay, wasn't it displaying 480 also?
I have messed with the TV settings like Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast etc but can't seem to get rid of the "fuzziness"....

From my experience there is indeed a significant difference between different manufacturers. An LED TV is still a LCD TV only a different back light system both are simply LCD TV's. The refresh rate, native resolution, up/down conversion, etc.... all play a big role in the over picture quality.

Suggest you go to the one of the several TV forums to get some additional data

I also recently purchsed the Samsung 32D4000, they don't get any better. So say the reviews as that TV was built mainly for picture quality and leaves out a lot of the extra bells and whistles. I think it's great and have had a few HD's including a Sony 52 inch which is one great TV.
Your 32D4000 is not a 1080, it's a 720 but don't get alarmed. In the 32 " and below you will, unless your a trained eye and under rare circumstances, will ever be able to tell the difference.
It's a great TV and if your having problems and not happy with it the TV has problems or something else is not up to snuff.

We replaced our 27" Sony CRT TV with the Samsung LN32C350 (non LED) HD LCD TV and with Direct TV Standard receiver we get a good picture. It has a 1366 x 768 Resolution. The only negative feature is it's down firing speakers where have to crank volume up to 100% and even then a bit difficult for DW to hear, being bit hearing challenged so most of the time we channel the sound through our amplified surround system that came with the coach.

How do you have it set up for SD reception? You should be using Pillar box mode for SD reception (This gives you a standard SD screen with black bands on either side)

Another factor is where HD is 720 or whatever (1080) NTSC Standard Deff is 525 and only some of them are visible. So it is fuzzier.

I know my TV is a 720....I knew I didn't have HD capability in the RV so I didn't need to spend the money for a 1080 set and the reviews on this TV were very good. I have the SD signal in from the DTV box using the Component Video (yellow-white-red) input. Guess I'll keep playing with the settings to see if I can get used to watching it's fuzzy picture.....worse case I still have the 26" Sony that I can reinstall.
Thank you all for the great info!!!

I believe yhe yellow red white set up is composite and is not compatable with HD and you get the worse reception with it. Should be using SDMI or at least component blue green red.

Interesting thread. I have a Sony 40" Bravia sitting on the pedastal between the front seats. Hooked it to my Toshiba laptop, & I only watch internet TV.
Netflix.com, XfinityTv.com, and ESPN3 for college football.

Watch TV Online for Free | Streaming Full Length Television Episodes | XFINITY TV

Watch Live Sports Events and ESPN Programs Online and on Mobile Applications - WatchESPN

My picture is GREAT. Its like being at the movie theatre.

I run the sound through an $80 computer sound system with a bass box. Sounds GREAT.

Am in the process of figuring out how to mount a 32" LCD up where the CRT tv is built into the cabinet. I was looking at Vizio tv's, as they are cheap, and the picture quality in the store looks fine.

I think Samsung's are pretty good. I had one a few yrs back, and it was nice.

True HDMI and Component (RGB) are both HD, Yellow is composite and not HD but is SD as is S Video.
Red/White is sound - needed for all except HDMI
