Glen,
Did the dome ever work for Directv? When we bought our "new to us" RV it came with a Winegard dome. I would not have figured this out so quickly but it was set for Dishnet and we found a manual for a Dish receiver in the paperwork tipping us off that it might not be set for Directv. We already had Directv from the previous MH and brought the receiver to the walk through. The RV dealer had his tech get up on the roof, throw the dip switches from the Dish to Directv settings and voila TV.
I'm not sure if your dome works the same way but hope this might help.

dsbike, if you must do this every time, something is wrong somewhere in the dome. If you continue to put up with the process mentioned in your post, let me know. I'll see what I can do to nominate you for Sainthood.

The normal proceedure for a NON-DVB or NON-GPS KVH is to press the satellite search button several times, maybe 10 times, to step through the satellite database..... unless a owner has an in-motion is lucky enough to remember to leave the power on at all times so the dish continues to trace the satellite once it is found. Every loose it go through the proceedure again. dsbike just seems to be adding some steps

Glen, I had similar problem. You may this; remove dome cover, I found a small "keeper" on one of the rotation rods had slipped off. re attached and worked as iot should. Coulsn't get iot to lock on satellite, so called tech and they sent me via e-mail, set up guide. Some wierd steps like one of the responses noted. Ta Da... it worked , Let me know if you need a copy. good luck.

GaryKD & Texnet, I know what works for me. Can be very frustrating at times but with my limited knowledge on SAT setup, I continue to do this. Fortunately we only move the RV about 3 times per year. If there is something wrong with it,it is out of warrenty so I will live with it for another year or 2 until we trade it in. I am not going to spend the money to get it fixed, I can get a very good signal once it locks on. With my old receiver it seems I was able to get the signal with a few less steps. O-Well.
By the way Gary, no nomination for Saint Hood, I am not very nice when I get frustrated, the DW usually tells me to go out side for a while.

Hi texnet,
I guess we will agree to disagree. My in-motion KVH (05 purchase) gets turned on when I need it. All other times it is off. For this post we will assume the need is only when stationary. When we get to the CG I turn the dome on as I leave the coach to register. By the time I return, it has found the SAT (unless there are trees). As I travel to the site the sat tracks the SAT. When entering the site I position the coach so we have SAT. I turn the dome off.
If I forgot to turn the dome on at registration, I turn it on just as I enter the site. Wait until the SAT is found, position the coach and turn the dome off.
I have never needed to go through the process mentioned in your or the OP's post. In the two club chapters I belong to, no member does what you need to do. Everyone follows the same procedure mentioned in this post.

GaryKD, My sat is not an inmotion. But maybe I am just inpatient & don't give it enough time to find the sat when I first turn it on. Not sure when I will be moving the RV again, but I may call upon you if I lose this post & forget your procedure. One thing I do that you do is I do turn the dome off, if not it will continue to move. I have left it on for several minutes. Several being about 5-7 & it never seems to stop searching.

GaryKD... The procedure that I provided is stated in the KVH manual for the non-DVB LF/LS antenna and it worked for me every time unless the signal was blocked. Maybe your KVH is not a pre-DVB unit. I got tired of messing with my in-motion LS/LF pre-DVB KVH and replaced it with a R5SL. Now I turn the power button on and it is locked on within a minute or two, most of the time in less than 15-20 seconds!

Today after reading all the great posts and help I moved the RV to a former Walmart Parking lot so I would be clear of all stuff....I followed several of your inputs and just began the process of pushing the search button and while holding it in turned the sat on. It would search and I would watch the signal strenth screen and pray for a signal. The first several time I did this I got what I had gotten and the tech that tryed to help me got nothing....then on the forth try of this a signal came in and moved all the way to 90%. 101 Sat and transponder 19 as my instructions had said to use. I cut the Sat to off and the signal remained. Screen said to contact Direct TV 800 number I did and in a few minutes I was looking at a great picture.....so tks for the help and don't give up on old equipment and trying to help it help you... I pray when I go to a CG and set up I can get the signal again....tks again Glen B
