No. Don't think it will work because the frequencies being sampled are different. The type of meter I use requires power from the satellite receiver. Also, my OTA coax cables are buried behind cabinets, so hooking up a meter would be a job. But hey, I have been wrong before. Just ask my wife.

Some TVs have a signal meter built in. A sat meter won't work - totally different frequency.

Why would you want an expensive meter when a $10.00 compass will work just as well????

A compass is worthless since you are scouting for the "direction" of the strongest OTA TV signal strength & most likely will not have a care-in-the-world just what the compass bearing direction angle is. [North-by-northeast, etc.]
TV or receiver doesn't have to be "ON":
The OTA signal meter hooks up in parallel to your crank-up signal feed, samples & reports via indicator lights the signal strength. You wheel the antenna around for highest signal and then you can power-up the receiver, TV,etc.

We raise the antenna, turn the TV and booster on and then turn the antenna until we get a picture. Then we use the signal strength meter [button on remote] to get that channel with the highest reading. After that we run a search for digital channels and we are done. Joe

Your method assumes there are analog broadcasts and they are in the same direction as the digital ones. The compass method is pretty good, assuming you went online to find what direction the strongest channels are. The compass direction to popular channels should be included with the RV park information, although it is not.
I see there is a direct replacement for the power supply and on/off switch panel for the powered outdoor antenna. This one has a signal meter--very cool.

I posted a question about Wineguard's signal meter in a earlier post but did not get a response from anyone who bought one. It replaces the Wineguard antenna power booster which would make for a easy change over/installation.
Has anyone our there installed and used one?

Our TVs have built-in signal strength meters. I never knew it until one day I looked at every button on the two TV remotes and there it was. One TV is a Sharp and one a Samsung and they both have it. They are not special TVs; just came with the coach. Check your remotes because you might have the same thing. It's one of those tiny buttons on the bottom. Joe

Joe,
The problem with TV signal meters is that you have to already be pointing the general direction or know which channel to manually tune to that you're trying to receive. If you rely on using the scan feature in your TV, your antenna must already be ointing generally in the right direction.

ccook,
SWEET!
Just launch the map, throw in the zip code and get a good look at where your local (or not) transmitters are. Add more location info and get a better look.
Thanks!
Steve
