Rich, NRV secured a metal plate to the roof, ran the wiring into the front cap and down the trim next to the drivers side.

Same as the factory install on mine. It's about 8 inches back from the front of the roof, with lots of sealant around it.

Are you doing an aftermarket radio head with a magnetic antennea? You can try just placing the antennea on the dash up close to the windshield. I have set mine up in 2 different cars with it placed on the dash near the windshield in one and on the rear deck of another, both worked perfectly. However you may loose a signal due to the coach windshields being so verticle. But there is no getting the wire outside & no holes required to try.

Mine inside the front cap. No need to drill a hole and maybe have a leak.

Why does anyone use( or pay) for satellite radio? I plug my iPhone into my stereo and listen to iheart radio, aol radio, 1000's of channels, ever genre, 24-7 comedy( my favorite) all free.

Nascar. Sirius XM 90. Can't be had on the computer, far as I know.

I share the GXM30 antenna puck with the Garmin 7200 in the RV and the Zumo 550 on the bike. I just throw it on the dash and drive.

A few years back before I had a smart phone I paid for life time service on the puck so I'll be using that for a while. No moving parts so it'll last a good long time.

Hmm, reasons? Here's some random thoughts...
1) Out of cell range
2) Traveling in roaming areas
3) Puts the phone back in the AV cabinet out of reach (while driving)
4) Cell phone plugged into stereo blah blah, pretty clunky complex
5) No smartphone
6) Sat radio is always sitting in the dash and is ready
7) I could continue....

1, 2, and 5 are my top reasons....
I travel out of cell range or in roaming areas a lot.

I originally installed my magnetic sat radio antenna on the dash. Worked ok but i did lose the signal fairly often for a few seconds.

I decided to move it and I placed it in the engine compartment on the frame just behind the grill. I secured and ran the wire up through the inside engine service cover and in to the back of the XM radio. It works great and now I seldom lose the signal.

I went with a Marine XM antenna, with the flange mount there is no problem with leaking. I mounted it over the passenger side entertainment center and fed the cable down the window pillar and under the dash to the radio. This is the second motor home I have done this on. This looks nice, works perfect, is weather proof and easy to install.

Took my aftermarket sat radio antenna up the windshield post and out under a marker light. Siliconed to roof and all works great. Lost reception too much with antenna on dash. Bought after market add on as I can move it from MH to my pickup and back by using a second vehicle installation kit. Used in both vehicles with on account.

I like to be able to get news, old time radio shows, talk shows and any music genre that I want on XM radio.
