Quick question....
I live in San Diego, have DirectTV, and take one receiver from house when we RV.
If I go out of town 10 miles or a 1000 miles, shouldn't I still be getting San Diego local stations if I set dish on the regular settings???
Thanks,
David

No, not necessarily. There are two satellites in space, one carrying your local channels. I had it explained to me that these satellites beams down a "cone" of signal similar to a flashlight shinning on the floor. If you are outside of the "cone" for your local channels you will not receive those channels. However, having said that, some satellite dishes, oval and perhaps some others, can pick-up both satellites and may allow you to receive your local channels.

According to this site you should receive your locals from about San Francisco in the north down into Mexico, and east to the state line.
