If I were starting from scratch, I would buy a Motosat. My reasoning is that I replaced a faulty Winegard with a Motosat over two years ago -- the Motosat has worked great and the one time I called customer service they were spot-on with their responses to my questions. I have had none of the problems/complaints I have heard from fellow RVers who own other mfg's products. My Motosat MD500 was new technology when I bought it, but obviously was well engineered and well built, so I would stick with Motosat myself. The only way I would go with a dome would be if a absolutely need satellite TV reception while driving ... JMHO.

MotoSAT open face dish, not a dome.
If you want DirecTV HD, then the MotoSAT 5 LNB dish is the ONLY choice.

My Coach came with a dome satellite. While we in Canada this summer, I couldn't get reception in some locations. Others around me with open dishes were all getting a signal. If my dome ever quits, I will replace it with an open face dish.

If you want to ever be able to pick up the HDTV programming from DirecTV then you will have to get a Winegard or MotoSAT open face dish. I also am partial to the MotoSAT but I'm a dealer so don't listen to me, check them out.
If you wan to be able to watch TV while driving (in-motion) then you must have a dome. If you don't care about having HDTV now or in the future then nearly any antenna on the market should work for you. You will hear good and bad about all of them but the reality is that they all work pretty well. The ONLY advantage to a dome if you don't want in-motion is that you don't have to remember to stow the dish before drive off. Otherwise, everything about an open face dish is better than a dome.

I love my 3005 Winegard, HD delight!! Push one button and forget about it. It fit my budget and has worked flawlessly. It may not be a MotoSAT and I do wish I had the cool blue light but I'm thinking about going with the red led's up there and around the windshield top inside.

Motosat open face would be my first choice, Winegard open face second. Our motorhome came with a dome, it won the battle. Off with the darn dome, currently have having Motosat open faced antenna installed which I should have done to begin with. Another lesson learned!

Hi Guy's
I have a King-Dome dish on my roof. It was installed a year ago and included "a gismo" that would enable me to watch HDTV.
Now - a year on - I am still paying for HDTV but my King-Dome dish can't receive the programs. HD programs seem to have been moved to other satelites.
I think that I am getting ready for a switch to Motosat with the 5 LNB's.
I have been looking at prices and it would appear that the installed price will var from between $2600 to about $3000.
Does anyone know any dealers with a good reputation and a good price in the Oregon - California - Arizone area? This is where we are going to be in the next few month.

Guaranty RV Service Center in Coburg OR just removed my Kingdome antenna, installed MotoSat HD DP-3 antenna, and installed new customer supplied receiver for a little over $2600. They are an authorized MotoSat dealer/installer.

I am still thinking about the HD TV. Are the Winegard and the MotoSAT units able to locate the satellites like the Kingdome or is this another measure and twist like I had with the old Winegard twist up?

All MotoSAT dishes including the 5LNB HD dish and the Winegard 5LNB dish are fully automatic.
