I have a Winegard SF-1000 satellite finder that I use for pointing a DirecTV Slimline 3 portable dish. When I connect the meter to the "to rcvr" port, the meter lights up. When I connect to the "to LNB" port, the light goes out and the meter goes dead.
Any sugestions?

Had this worked for you in the past or is this your first time attempting to hook it up?

Does your Slimline dish have 4 cable connections or just 2? If just 2 you need to make sure you have the power cable hooked up and powered as well since that is a SWM (single wire multiplexer) type dish.

Some meters provide enough power to energize the SWM dishes to aim, others dont.

Newmar--Thanks for the reply!
Yes, it has worked. My dish has 4 co-ax leads. I use 1 or 2 as that's all the control boxes I have in my 5er. Does not appear to make a difference which of the 4 leads I use.

Change batteries? Perhaps the meter has bit the dust?

Sounds like there is a short in the cable going to the LNB
Has the end pulled off the cable where it attaches to the LNB?? or out enough to short out??
Thats where I would check
FWIW
Don
PS I use a SL3 slimline as well

The meter is powered by the satellite receiver, so there's no additional power connection and no special tools are required.

I would replace that coax going to the LNB as well. If that does not solve your problem please call Winegard technical services at 800-788-4417 and they will get you taken care of.
