I have direct tv in my coach and some places my dome won't work due to blockages. so my question is i have a dish satellite with a single lnb with two hook ups coming out of it, will it work with my diect tv recievers?
i want to mount it on a tripod and take it out away from the coach where it will get a signal. my friend gave me the dish network dish and said it might work? this is why i am asking for a pros thoughts. thank you

I haven't seen a Dish Network antenna with a single LNB (except domes). It should work on satellite 101 to get SD programming. Give it a shot at home before you take it on a trip.

Will work just fine. The two cable hookup is needed if you have a DVR. Just get a mast mount, plus a good compass to align with the Directv Sats. It takes a little bit of getting use to setting up the dish. Start with the elevation and then adjust the azimuth. If you have a HD dish you will have set the deflection first. Good luck.

Some terminology for Sat Dish Users.

Single/Dual.. Most folks think that is one or two LNB's on the dish, WRONG. it means one or two output connections on the LNB(s) Two LNG's is a TWIN and TWINS is nearly always dual, but what you have is a Dual dish..

Why do you need a Dual dish?

Well, if you have more than one receiver one output runs to one and the other to the other, or both run to a switch.. Let's look at the last (Both run to a switch)

The switch tells one line "Give me EVEN transponders" and to the other line "Give me the ODD ones, and trust me some of those are very odd, but that's another odd,

Then when the receiver(s) request even or odd, the switch picks the proper line.

(With just two receivers the receiver can pick odd or even independent of the other one)

Thus both ports are identical and you can use eitehr one.

INSIDE the RV, Take the LNB line off the receiver and run it to the "A" (As in ABOVE) port on a low cost A/B switch such as the RCA VH-71 (A buck at the Google store last I checked)

From the "B" port run a new RG-6 line to the basement or bulkkead and put the prper connnector for the ground mount dish down BELOW.

The remaining port hooks to the LNB IN on the receiver again with RG-6

To use ground mount,, HOOK UP first, then switch to B, and

DirecTV: Reset receiver, then go to antenna pointing
Dish, Point, then check switch.

To switch back to dome.. Swich to "A" before disconnecting. Once in the clear and locked on do the reset/check switch.

IF it has two outputs then you can use two receivers or a dual input DVR.

HOWEVER if you are a DISH subscriber and your antenna is a DUAL (two outputs, one LNB) you are limited to one satellite, A Twin or Triple will get both SD or all programming (HD included)

The thing to remember when using DISH antennas with DIRECTV receivers is to RESET the receiver when you change over from your dome. (Of course I mentioned that before) and when you change back.

Dish hardware is fanastic, When you run Check Switch it sends something like 38 different tests to the antenna to figure out just what is hooked to it and configures itself to use that specific antanna. DirecTV hardware is not nearly that automatic, however the DISH LNB's are also good enough to take what DirecTV sends them and figure it out. I can not praise Dish hardware enough.

Still.. I recommend DirecTV for RVers with domes for the simple reason that you can very likely get all your NON-HD programmign with that dome.. The hardware kind of sucks, the DVR is a joke, The sales reps lie like carpet, but it works, 100%.

With Dish, since you need to see multiple birds... how well it works depends on if you have one, or more, reeivers. (Works well with one receiver and the right dome. not so good with multiple Receivers or dual channel DVR' (DIshes are way better by the way) and a dome) I"ve used both.
