Can you mix receivers with your Dish? Let's say a Dish receiver and a Wally?

As Techwriter and others have mentioned, the X2 has a few advantages. It can usually find sats when you are in wooded areas by selecting the appropriate arc. And, it can support 2 receivers (but only 1 satellite at a time).

Be aware that any dish must still have a clear line of sight to satellites ... sometimes you need to spend a fair amount of time moving the dish around and maybe changing it's height to find a "hole".

Depends on the dish (antenna) & depends on the receiver. A Wally is a receiver. A Tailgater and a Pathway are antennas.

A Wally or 211k or 211z will work with either a Tailgater or Pathway.

And you can mix those receivers in a 2 receiver configuration. For instance, I have a Wally and a 211Z on a Pathway X2.

That's good to know because I may be buying used and it domes with one of the 211's and I may get a Wally for the other TV at some point.

Yes you can get Locals from Bangor MA in SD. The spot beam covers almost the whole Maritimes.

I am in the process of installing satellite in my rv. I bought the King tailgater because i wanted two receivers. I got a Wally for the living room and a VIP 211z for the bedroom. I called Dish to activate the Wally. When I called to activate the 211z it would not activate. After trying three different times I called Dish tech support. They finally came to the conclusion that both receivers had to be the same kind??? I ordered another Wally but have not had a chance to install it yet.

Connecting each receiver to the #1 port on the Tailgater during activation would probably have helped. The receiver needs to receive the activation code via the raw SAT.

After both had received their activation authorization, the port would not matter.

And remember, the second receiver cannot change the SAT viewed. It is one SAT at a time and receiver #1 selects which of the 3 SATs is viewed.

Best luck

Thanks for the info. I will try this when I get time. At least my 211z was free from Campingworld. This is why I love this forum.

This is assuming you select "1 receiver" at setup.

If you select "1 receiver" at setup, you can view all 3 satellites with restrictions.

Restrictions: If you change the Sat on receiver #1, and you want to watch that new sat on receiver #2, you need to run a Check Switch on receiver #2.

So, if you are a sat flipper on receiver #1, you will be keeping someone very busy if they are watching on receiver #2. This is why Dish locks on a single satellite when you select "2 receivers" at setup.
However, if you only "need" to view on a single satellite, you can select "2 receivers" at setup. If you must have multiple satellites (your primary viewing is on one satellite and your Locals are on a different satellite) then select "1 receiver" at setup.

The routine of selecting "1 receiver", even though you have 2 receivers, is a workaround for the issue of having 2 receivers and the dish antenna only has 1 (movable) LNB. The capability to move the dish is limited to receiver #1 (receiver #2 cannot move the dish).

It's not pretty ...

BTW, the folks at DISH don't know this ... they aren't the manufacturer. Winegard and King understand the limitation (and vaguely mention it).

I got everything hooked up today and both receivers are working like they should. I wired it with two diplexers back to back and now when I hook up at RV park I can have cable or sat. I haven't been camping yet to see if the cable part works yet though. Thanks for the help.
