Satellite replacement

The old original winegard dish needs replacing on my 2002 Journey. Any suggestions on which dish would fill the hole on top the best? We have direct TV and I'm tied of having to search manually.

Thanks Gary

I think the only fully automatic rooftop dishes are the Winegrd Trav'ler and the RF Mogul. Both of those can receive from all the DirecTV satellites at the same time so they are ideal when you're using a DVR. They also are SWM-compatible and I don't think any of the portables are unless you add a power inserter and a SWM switch. Both of these are pricey choices but our Trav'ler has worked well for nearly 9 years.

I don't think that anything is going to "fill the hole". When I removed the dish that came on my 2003 Winnebago, I simply made a cover plate for the roof and added an additional smoke detector on the inside. Then installed a Travler over the plate and used the existing cable entrance for the coax and data cables.

$13 bucks for a SWM switch and power inserter.....And one can find a meter for SWM setups on Ebay....with the newer tripod setups, using the meter is a 5 minute setup....

Hi ernieh, I'm going to go ahead and remove my old sat dish and replace it with a winegard gm-9000 and was wondering about what material to use to cover the outside hole that would be sturdy enough and maybe where to get it.

I used a piece of aluminum sheet. It might have been a piece of roll stock that they use to form seamless gutters for your house.
