Satellite-Stationary or Portable-Brand?

Requesting feedback on satellite for 5th wheel.

I have read some prefer portable over stationary due to parking under trees and getting bad reception with stationary units.

Any brands better than others. I was thinking of getting DISH. Bad, good or even possible???

What about prices on cost of getting receiver vs monthly charges. Is it costly?

Any help, appreciated.

I use portable. Doesn't take but 20 minutes to set it all up and dial it in. But I usually stay for 1 or month at a time at any location (except when in transit between locations). I only invested about 200 bucks for the tripod, dish and associated cabling. Of course you can spend 1500 plus labor if you want a rood mounted unit. Advantage; every time you stop you can have your satellite programming. Also, it may be a better choice if you move around a lot more than I.

Get what will work for you !
or get both !

I tried the manual setup and I'm not patient enough to do that
and since I like HD on our 55" LED tv... we opted for the directv travl'r on top - plug in, level the rv, push a button, and watch tv

Our rv has enough air conditioning and awnings for shade !

We prefer a portable system. Please note how far away we had to move our antenna to receive a signal on a recent trip to the forest. Our Dish Tailgater with pay as you go works great!

We have the Traveler for Direct and love it. However, trees can be a problem.

I believe your decision should be guided by how and where you like to camp. If you plan to spend a lot of time in shaded parks, state parks, COE parks, I would go for one of the easy to use automatic portable units.

The traveler works for us since we generally stay in places where we can get a clear view of the sky.

We have Dish at the house and the Dish Tailgater for the rv. Our cost is $7.00 a month added on to the house bill.

We tried the tailgater and found it did not have adequate signal strength when in bad weather, went to the Winegard x2Pathfinder and it works great, only works with Dish, is a little larger but well worth the extra $ .

With dish it cost 50.00 for the receiver and they will provide the dish, cableing and set it up one time with instructions. Cost is 7.00 a month and it can be shut off when not in use.

We use the Winegard Carryout to get Dish. The carryout is portable and automatic, so all I have to do is get a good line of sight to the satellites and come inside and watch TV. Dish only requires a telephone call to CS to get the local channels when we move.

There is nothing to set up. hook up cable, lay it on ground.

The Winegard Carryout G2 is kind of the best of both worlds. There is an optional roof mount available. The majority of the time it can be used on the roof, but when necessary it can be removed and used on the ground. It works with all of the satellite TV providers and can be bought for about $650.
