Satellite systems
We’re investigating the purchase of a satellite system for our rv. We currently are Dish subscribers with no plans to change. The challenge is choosing the best equipment, so I would appreciate input. Pathway X2, Pathway X1 or King Tailgater 84187, and where to get the best price…

We have the Pathway X2 and 2 Wally receivers. Love the Pathway, however I gave up on trying to run 2 receivers at the same time. Not that it can't be done, but it's 2 much of a PITA. I bought all of it on Amazon. The Pathway X2 was offered for almost half price from a company that gets damaged boxes, I payed $265 for it. The box was tore up and taped but the antenna was new.

If you want full viewing flexabilty on multiple TVs a open face antenna capable of receiving all three Dish satellites simultaneously is need - such as Winegard Traveler. Plus multiple receivers or a Hopper.
A portable dome antenna and single reciever work great for a single TV.

X 2 on the Pathway X2. It allows you to select which DISH satellites you want to use, Eastern Arc or Western Arc. That can be a big thing when parked in an obstructed area. The other two antennas mentioned only receive the Western Arc satellites.
Also it has a much larger reflector dish, than the other two, to increase reception strength which minimizes rain fade. As a mater of fact, I have used mine in heavy rain without any loss of signal.

the KingTailgater2, or even the DishPlaymaker, is small, light, very portable, will sit anywhere, even ride on your rooftop, and doesn't need to be exactly 'level'... just place it anywhere it'll be able to see at least one of the three satellites. It's automatic, of course, and the acquisition of the satellites is easy. The King and other 'two output' units can also drive a second receiver, watching channels from the same satellite as the main receiver*
These also do really well in rain and weather conditions, unless a strong storm cell is right in the path of the satellites, you'll get at least some of the satellites and channels until the storm cell passes.... otherwise, little gets in the way of these little portables!
$349 is the typical price of the King Tailgater2... amazon and other places, but also Camping World
$299 may be the price for the single output Dish Playmaker... same places.

Can't help on that since we use Direct TV but wanted to say hello! Keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I am using the original kingdome on my RV and bought this receiver from AMZ. http://amzn.to/2FuzhWE
I works fine, I decided to add a USB thumbdrive for recording shows. Had to pay Dish a one time charge to enable that capability. But now i can watch a recorded show while the unit is recording another. Just like home.

Don't leave the RF Mogul out of your consideration. Also don't believe Winegards/Camping Worlds false advertising that Winegard is the only dish to receive HD. The RF Mogul also is full HD with both Direct and Dish. Plus, if needed, you can get parts unlike the Winegard which must be shippef back to the company.
Right now I have the old Moto Sat HD dish and an RF Mogul controller. Considering replacing the Moto Sat before it fails since parts are hard to find.
