I am looking on which would be better when traveling, using a satellite tripod or the bullseye. With the bullseye I am woried that some campgrounds may not allow you to put the stake in the ground but even with the tripod I would want to attach it to a screwed in stake so I am not sure there would be much difference. I think the bullseye might be easier to level. Any thoughts would be helpfull. Thanks.

We gave up on the tripod as it was too much trouble to anchor it and level it. We have used the Bulls-Eye mount now for about 3 years. It does come with additional brackets that allow you to clamp it to a table, bumper or the RV ladder.

Here is a mount that works well for us Dish Mount If you do not want to install the dish as seen just make the mounting stub vertical.

I would like to cast my vote for the mount suggested by N8XV. I saw his post about three years ago and built one. I have Direct TV and all I need is a compass. Sets up really fast and stores well.

Tried the DirecTV-supplied tripod when it arrived last week. I purposely set it up on some uneven ground as a test. Leveling was not that hard but it needed shims, wood blocks, rocks and curses to get it straight. It worked but any passing kid or dog would certainly wreck you aim.

I ordered a bullseye the same day.

I made one out of PVC pipe. I don't glue the tube that runs between the legs as this allows me to level the dish. I also drilled out all the spot welds on the dish and replaced them with 1/4x20 bolts and wing nuts. This allows me to fold up the feed horn when I stow it. I also replaced all the nuts with wing nuts so I don't use any tools to do the setup. Very stable......

I've been using the Bullseye for years. I like the ease of setup, easy leveling and small storage space required. I use the ground stake method 98% of the time and picnic table mount 2%.
