Selecting new TV's for MH

I am currently in the process of replacing my boat anchor CRT TV's in the MH which are 27 inch in the front and 22 inch in the rear.

For those that have already done it, what size HD flat screens did you use, and what brand and model did you choose? Any regrets?

Thank's,
Pat

Get your tape measure out and take some measurements. Then go to your favorite electronics store and start measuring TV's. I ended up with two Samsungs in my current fiver and they have been perfect. When we went shopping for a new TV for the house we ended up with a Sony. Fantastic picture. But obviously we did not have to worry about size for home. Stay away from the cheap brands. Samsung, and Sony seem to be two of the top choices.

Go to Wal-Mart and get Vivos. Great TV's and at a good price.

Measure and get the biggest you can for the space you have. Different brands do not always have the same size so the size may help determine which you can look at----there are many great deals on these things now--so shop around---Costco, Best Buy have good prices.

Absolutely no regrets---less weight, better picture, more space, better looking. You may have to do some wood work to fit the new one in and anchoring the new TV is different than just plopping one in a cabinet---but none of it is particularly difficult.

There are many threads showing technique with pictures so search them and many of us are willing to chime in with suggestions----have fun.

I just bought a 22" Naxa LED TV for the bedroom. Unbelieveably lightweight, runs on 120 volt AC or 12 Volt DC current, both plugs included, for about $215 including shipping from overstock.com. Great picture quality and if you ever boondock it won't draw down your batteries.

I am in the process of finishing installing a 32" Samsung LED TV in the front. We only buy Samsung now after comparing the picture quality.
Need to put the foam padding and vinyl on the new box and put it back in to finish.
Could have installed a 40" but it hung down too far for our taste since it was so much wider than the old CRT one.
The rear one will be more trouble to find as there's only room for one that's 18½" wide unless I let it hang out over the cabinet door.

PS: Don't drop them like I did and scratch the screen!! I did and had to go buy another one for an add'l $389!! I'm now using the scratched one in my "man cave", The scratch is visable but it's only about 1/8" wide and ¾" long. The scratch glows bright white all the time although I did tone it down with a black marker.

PO, had installed a 26" flat screen in front , I had to have a 32" and moved the 26 to the bed room. Regret not paying more attention to speaker placement, the 32's face down and my DW uses the steering wheel as a computor stand so there's an arguememt over volume, that we never had with the 26, with it's side mounted speakers. Also, all the hook ups for inputs were off to one side, and the power cord was hard wired into the 32 ; which complicated the install.

I believe my front TV (CRT) was 27" and that converted to a 32" LCD. I overlapped the original cabinet area to fit but it actually looks better because the old one was framed in plastic---I framed in real wood. Becaue it is essentially "custom install I could just make the size wood I needed. This is part of the fun of this--if you enjoy it and have some tools and modest skills.

The facia of the installs are the fun part the really necessary part is beefing up so yopur new flat screen mount will be strong to hold the TV while moving and bouncing. Sounds daunting but really is not---plywood has great structure and holding power (2 3/4 ply glued together is really substantial)---some people have fabricated steel. Basically when yo get the old one out you look at the cabinet and see what you got then brace it so it works and fits---nothing to it.

In my case the sides were steel so I just braced ply in between the sides and placed my mount screwing into the steel and was done. Very solid and simple.

The rear was more confining because I went into a cabinet then built a door for the cabinet as well----I think I replaced a twenty something CRT with a 19" LCD. It has a DVD in it also. Easy deal. I mounted to a steel beam in the back wall of the coach (a magnet identified it as steel) with a swivel mount so it can swing out for viewing and and in for travel.

I also did a custom install in the basement for outside viewing using a LED because they are so thin (heavier per square ") basically a TV in a drawer, when you open the drawer in folds down for viewing. Tucks away for travel. A 22" fit perfectly---I cannot remember the brand but it was at a great sale price @ Best Buy.

The inside TV's are Samsung---both @ Costco. YOu can get good 19" LCD/s for considerably less than $200 a 32" will run into around $400. The LED are really coming down in price---I just got a 22" Samsung for our home office @ $229. Costco.

Keep us informed and ask questons if you get stumped.

the PO had already removed the tube-type tv up front, and had made a 2x6 mount for a flat screen. he took his tv with him, so i bought a 32" led vizio. its only 720p, but thats good enough for "camping", right? works great, looks great, sounds ok with the built-in speakers. sounds great when routed through the surround sound system.

I had the same size TV in the front overhead and wanted to replace it with the largest TV I could fit in its place. I was looking at 32 inch TV's until I found a new model 40 inch Samsung LED TV. Samsung has a very narrow picture boarder allowing a larger TV picture in a smaller space. Very happy with the clarity and features.

Today we bought a 32" Visio. A 26" is really what would "fit" but we are going to make the 32" work somehow. The difference between the actual viewable area between the 26 and the 32 is substantial. Whenever we get a chance to actually make the conversion I will try to take some pictures to show you how it came out. We now have a TV that is mounted behind the trim and the new one will sit flush to the outside of the cabinet (I hope). Hopefully, it will still also look good. I don't expect this to happen terribly quickly but if I get bored tomorrow, who knows!

OP here. Thank's everyone for sharing your ideas. I'v been out reading and measuring and measuring and reading and on and on. Lot of choices. So far I've kinda decided on the 32 inch Samsung D4000 model for the front. I'm still just stalking this project and really am not commited untill my son shows up and helps me get that heavy beast out of the overhead. Then I'm locked in as it's not going back.
I'll be searching the forums to see what kind of mounting ideas you all have come up with.

Thank's again.
