We use a Verizon wireless USB modem for our Internet connection when travelling, and we use Outlook at home for sending and receiving e-mails.

When on the road we have no problems receiving our mail on Outlook, but we are not able to send from here. We believe that this is caused by an incorrect setting in the SMTP server for outgoing e-mails. This will have to be changed when your Internet carrier changes (we think).

The answer could be to set up a hotmail or MSN mail account but then we wouldn't get all our e-mails in just one convenient location.

I have been looking at Verizon's website to see if there are and help to be had here, but I can't find anything.

Does anyone know if there is a setting for the SMTP server that can be used and that would enable us to use Outlook like we do normally when at home?

I copy and pasted this from Verizon | FiOS Internet - Setting up Verizon Online email with Outlook 2003

Setting up Verizon Online email with Outlook 2003
    1. Open Outlook.
    2. From the Tools menu, select Email Accounts.
    3. Select Add a new email account and then click Next.
    4. Select POP3, then click Next.
    5. Fill in your Internet email settings:
      • In the Your Name field, type your full name.
      • In the Email Address field, type your email address.
      • Type incoming.verizon.net in the Incoming mail (POP3) field.
      • Type outgoing.verizon.net in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field
      • In the User name field, type your Verizon Online user name.
      • In the Password field, type your password.
      • Click the Remember password checkbox.
    6. Click More Settings.
    7. Click the Outgoing Server tab and click the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
    8. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server and click OK.

Tip: Click Test Account Settings to verify that you have configured your Verizon email settings correctly.
    9. Click Next and then Finish to close the window.
Hope that helps. Verizon doesn't seem to make finding help very easy. I know from 31 years experience

Hi Mark and thank you

You are a better detective than I am - this is exactly what I couldn't find.

I Have a USB-727 Verizon Aircard.

I have 2 email address that I use. One is on the iRV2 domain and the other is on the sccoast.net domain. Both of these mail accounts are setup and work as they should when I am at home and physically connected to my DSL Modem.

When I get on the road the sccoast.net domain will allow me to receive mail however I am not able to transmit mail. The ISP told me that I have to be physically connected to the domain in order to transmit mail. The weirdest thing I ever did see BUT it's what happens.

Using my primary mail, iRV2.com, I can receive and transmit from any where. All I need is a connection the the Internet.

Any Internet mail service should also work, Yahoo, gMail, MSN or AOL for example from anywhere.

I use a Verizon USB air card when on the road. At home the cable for internet. I experienced major issues with sccoast.net while traveling and using the air card. To solve the issue I went to GMAIL and use it as the primary email both at home and on the road. Home is Outlook, on the road is Thunderbird, I want to set up Outlook for on the road and will follow the above information to see if I can get it working.

As far as I know Verizon no longer allows the use of their servers as such. They sent me a letter so stating several months ago.
I had to change my account setup at that point.
As I recall I checked a box that had Outlook to use the same outgoing server as the incoming server.
My incoming server is pop.csi.com and the outgoing is smtp.csi.com. I did have to set the outgoing port to to 587.
