The cool thing about this device is that even when switching from WISP mode (rebroadcasting park Wi-Fi) to Router mode (using the device as a Wi-Fi router with the DSL modem), I didn't need to configure any of the six devices connected to it. They still just see the TrendNet. The transition was transparent to the two laptops, Kindle, TV, Dish receiver, and printer. All I had to do was tell the TrendNet to use the Ethernet port rather than the park Wi-Fi for input.

So when using the CG Wi-Fi you use the WISP mode? Would that be true for all CG Wi-Fi systems?

That is correct.

When moving to a new park, simply log on to the TrendNet and select that park's Wi-Fi network.

BTW, it works just fine with Wi-Fi networks that require a login from your browser.

I don't know why you say this; the Samsung you posted in the other thread has the same capability as the HP. That's what "wireless direct" means.

OK, I'll give that a try. I bought the Samsung printer last night!

I'm not so sure I would get the TrendNet device. For me, there would have to be a firewall on the device yet it doesn't have one. I have not been able to determine if there is a built-in configurable firewall on the iPhone when using it as a hotspot, so for now, it's no for me--it is a great idea, though! I know folks can use firewalls on their computers, but to me, that's the last line of defense.

Great news!

I opened up the new Samsung M2070W printer today. It works perfectly with my laptop on my wireless LAN at home! I was able to print documents wirelessly off the internet! But the really great news is that it has a "Direct Wireless" mode where it shows up on the laptop as a wireless network. I can connect to the printer wireless without having a Wi-Fi network available at all!

This laser printer is VERY fast, around 20 PPM! The print quality is excellent, even in the "Eco" mode where it uses less ink! If you can find a Wal-Mart that still has them on the shelf I think it is a great buy at $99.95. As I said earlier, Wal-Mart does not show them at all online, so I figure they will not have them anymore after the store stock is gone. Maybe that's why the price is so low! This is a multi-function machine, it prints, scans, and copies. It does not have a FAX function, but that's pretty much obsolete anyway! Of course, it does not print in color, but that was not a big deal to me. It would be very seldom I might want to print in color anyway. Wal-Mart has the laser cartridges for $54.95 and they print about 1000 copies. That will last me a LONG time!

I'm definitely a happy camper!

Well, after three weeks of use, the TrendNet device stopped working. After an hour on the phone with their tech support, the fourth hard reset got it working again in WISP mode, but there is reason to believe that it no longer works in router mode, the mode I was using at our last site.

I just ordered a NETGEAR Trek N300 Travel Router and Range Extender (PR2000) that was mentioned in another thread.

That sounds like a good choice. I posted in the other thread why I think it is a better product.

I just quickly browsed the thread. I'll look at it closer tomorrow.

You really do not want your device to act as a bridge or repeater. That lets everybody on YOUR network.

You want your device to act as a router. That way you share the WiFi signal with devices on your network, The wireless printer is a part of your network. This is much more private and secure.

I use a Netis WF2404D (make sure you get the "D" model with the metal antenna connectors) WiFi ROUTER. I bought it off of eBay ($24.94) and use it as a router.

By using it as a router, my network is "secured" from the park WiFi and all the other people using it. On MY network (LAN) I have a wireless printer, a desktop and a couple of laptops. I can log on to my router and choose which WiFi (WAN) I want to connect to. My (LAN) never changes. Very simple once set up.

The Netis device looks like a good device, too. It does have a firewall, but the manual is not clear on whether or not the packet filtering firewall blocks everything inbound by default (something it should do). It is available at Newegg for $22.99!

I think any router will block inbound packets by default. I have seen that page on the router.

But the nice thing is that your LAN IP addresses are different than the WAN. I purchased a high gain directional antenna, plugged into one of the connectors on the Netis (Make sure you get the "D" model) and set it up on the dash. I can aim it 180 degrees from there.

Instead of seeing 6-8 WiFi devices, I can see 24 - 32, some free. This way if you want to pull in and check your email somewhere, you don't have to park out front. You can park far away and aim.

I use the setup found here:

http://www.outsideourbubble.com/secu...-for-under-100

Works great. Just suction cup the antenna to the window. Pulls in wifi from a long distance and provides a private wifi network inside your rv. Setup is a bit technical tho.
