shaw direct - what dish?
Hi
wondering if anyone is using shaw direct; and then what dish you are using?
Our plan:
1. use shaw direct as our provider of digital tv
2. use either the Winegard portable OR the VuQube portable as our dish
Will our plan work?
THANKS!

The dish is shaped like a football not a soccer ball. Shaw used to be Star choice..... the dish is a little more complicated to aim because there are two settings.... elevation and skew ( sideways).

The LNB use a different way of using the signal the dish receives -Not interchangeable You will have to go with a tripod or the roof mounted Travler made by Winegard
I agree shaw is your best bet when going south as Bell nolonger goes too far south anymore

As already stated you will need an elliptical dish and a shaw lnb, no big deal they come up on the Vancouver Craig's list on a regular basis and not real expensive. If you want a portable one that you aim yourself then you will need a stand to mount your dish on. When you sign up with Shaw they will provide the dish, receivers, and install if you want to pay for the package you'll need for your home system, If you give them an extra 100 I believe they will give you the portable rv setup and then you take your home reciever with you. If you don't want to pay you can get it all off of Craigs list and do it yourself. If you want an automatic setup for the rv then be prepared to spend a lot more dollars and you have to make sure it is a shaw setup. Also be aware that shaw will be adding another satellite next year and current setups may not get all channels. Something to thing about before spending thousands on an automatic system.

Go for the Motosat dish - it is better built than the Winegard. They are both convertible from Star choice to Bell although I would stick with Star Direct (StarChoice). $2200 installed at Quartzite.

I'm not disputing you claim but out of interest I have been told/shown how the Winegard is more ruggedly built. In what way is the motosat better. My DW wants the Motosat because she thinks it's cute with the little blue light. I told her if the Wingard was better built I'd wire up a fancy little light with the color of her choice. Also in Quarzite did you have to pay tax? I am considering putting on a dish next fall on the way down and you can get the same "deal" without paying tax in Oregon. I agree with Starchoice. I have an automatic dish already but will only work with Bell or the US providers. I will not get myself involved with Bell.

Motosat has a chain drive. Winegard has a gear drive which allows play in every gear. I developed a spring kit to take out the slack in the Winegard crank up and just last week had to wrench down one of the Travelers (roof) dish. The customer called Winegard and at least they exchanged it for a new unit. You need to pay sales tax in all states except Oregon but I don't know of a installer there. The best installer is Qartzite but there is a good one in Palm Springs as well.
None of the portable - except tripod - dishes are set up for StarChoice LNBs.
