Shockwave Flash keeps crashing (not responding)

Seems like the last few months I keep getting a message right in the middle of trying to access a web site that Shockwave Flash is not responding. I googled and read several ways to eliminate this problem but it all sounds very complicated for someone not too very computer literate.
Has anyone experienced this and if so is there a simple fix to stop it from crashing all the time?

I would uninstall Flash and reboot your computer. Once it is running again, download the latest version from the Adobe website and re-install. It if is still crashing on the one website, I would stop using that website - they've got a Flash implementation problem.

If Shockwave Flash is causing all this problem what good does it do? Why not jus uninstall it and quit?
When I look at Uninstall I see Adobe Flash, is this the one I need to uninstall?

That's the one. Flash is used to program websites although it's use is declining as HTML5 (more universal, no add on programs required) takes over.
