Will the engine, Ford E-350 Super Duty, on my class C interfere with reception if I place the Sirrus sat radio antenna on the quarter panel next to the hood? I'd like to run the antenna wire along the same path as the standard radio and place it nearby.
I can't leave the sat antenna on the dash because the monkey likes to play with such things and the thought of trying to run it up to the roof feels like a major undertaking.

As long as the antenna can "see" south you shouldn't have a problem. I had mine on the dash and when I was driving north the rig interfered with the signal and I lost reception. I've since mounted it on the roof.
You should have no problem.

For the best reception get it up on the roof. If you place it by the hood on a C it will not have a clear view of the southern sky at all times.

Thanks! How difficult is the path to the top of a class C?

I have had satellite radio for almost 7 years. Try to get it on the roof and use velcro if you cannot find metal. If you have a CB antenna, hang it on the base somehow. Do you have a picture of your RV? I used to have an older Class C and my antenna was on the roof.

I have a 40' DP and I put my Sirius antenna in the middle of the dash, inside the coach and only have a loss of signal once in a while. We just made the trip from Texas, East to Florida, North to New England, West to Niagara, Acroos lower Ontario, Up around the Great Lakes, and back South again. No loss of signal except for an occasional and that seemed to be when there were large treed forests around us.
I don't see why it will not work out on the hood. The worse you are gong to get for trying it there is that it doesn't work. Then you move it to another spot. Go for it.

I think I'll try putting it out as far as practical on the hood. The path to the roof just seems almost impossible to hide. The wire is thin. I wonder if I should run it thru some vinyl tubing for protection.

Here's one exactly like mine. Bought it from Abel RV. Great people to deal with!

The radio antenna is near the corner of the windshield, passenger side. I think if I put it out closer to the headlight there should be very little chance of the signal being blocked by the cabover. I don't really want to drill a hole thru the body. I'll try running it thru the space next to the hood. It's small and magnetic. There is and adhesive patch in the kit as well.

Because the satellite(s) are located over the equator (geosynchronous) and in the northern hemisphere - that's south

Not these. We're talking about Sirus, not XM or any other service

Correction: All 4 of the XM says are geosynchronous, plus they have terrestrial transmitters all over the country. Sirus has 2 geosync sats, but S2 flies an elliptical orbit that results in a really high attitude over the US alot of the time that they 'say' eliminates their need for XM's fill-in repeaters

You could try calling a Best Buy to see if they could install it. They did a great job when I initially got XM. I can now do it myself now.

Here is my XM antenna on my CB antenna base.
