we have a 2004 monaco windsor that has quite a few boxes above for tv, dvd, etc.

I've gotten the cd and dvd working, but not sure about the tv. I know I probably need a converter box. do I also need to update the antenna? it's a winnegard. also, where do I plug the converter box into? I've read not to put it into the tv antenna, rather the aux; does this mean I press the aux button? as long as the power button is on on the distrubution box, will the antenna work if I'm using the aux?

thanks ahead for any help, I'm sure there will be more questions to come

The winegard Batwing antenna works for both analog and digital OTA TV signals. You won't need to replace the antenna.

The easiest way to connect a converter box is to put one at each TV. The drawback is you will need multiple converters if you have more than one TV.

There is another method to connect only one converter before the Winegard distribution box, but it requires a special power pass-through splitter. The drawback is you must watch the same program on all TVs in the rig, and you will probably have to go to where the converter is located to change channels.

If you have a video selector switcher, an easy way to set up a digital converter box is to put it in-line to 'VCR In'. Turn on the converter box, antenna booster. Select 'Antenna' on VCR', and select 'VCR' for TV1 and/or TV2. You will now be routed thru the digital converter box.

You cannot install the digital converter box in-line TO the TV antenna as this will disrupt the power to the antenna (12V) and possibly cause the converter box to not work at all, meaning destroy it.

In this configuration, you can only watch the same off-air signal on both TV's.

If you have the coin, you can also just replace those tube TV sets with flat screens that have an ATSC tuner from the factory, negating the need for converter boxes. I got the Sanyo flat screen in my fiver at Walmart * for $269.

To follow up on what rray said; H.H. Gregg is selling 24" LCD flat-screen TV's for $199.99 until Christmas. Consider that a good converter unit now costs about $70 and up, and the decision for us was easy.

Some are easier than others. Ours wasn't too bad. There were 4 screws holding on a wood frame, and a couple of wood blocks inside wedging it in. Be aware, our 25" TV weighed 65 pounds, and you have to get it down from a location that's over your head. Someone to steady it helps.

After you get the old TV out, you will need someone who is handy with woodworking tools to figure out how to support the new TV and frame it in.

Removing the old TV is a two person job. After you get it out take exact measurments of the inside of the frame. When I replaced the TV in our 04 National Tropi Cal I was able to find a 32 in flat panel that was almost exactly the same physical size as the old 27 inch TV. Of course the store employees looked at me rather funny as I went from store to store measuring every TV.

One other suggestion is to purchase a "Wingman" HD extension to snap onto your existing TV roof-top antenna. It will bring in more HD channels than just the basic antenna you are currently using.

Simple installation, about 5 minutes or less and that's including the time it takes to climb onto the roof. Just make sure that after you have it installed, it will not hit anything when stowed flat on the roof.
