Sometimes can't change signal input for TV

Like any of the newer flat screen TVs ours accepts multiple inputs (cable, satellite, of air...) and one of ours will occasionally refuse to switch back to the HDMI (sat) signal.

Switching on our Sony TVs can be done "manually", through the on screen menu, or automatically (if it's set to off air and I turn on the sat or DVD player it will automatically switch to the HDMI signal input). On occasion when trying to switch it back to the HDMI input I'll get nothing but a blank screen. Typically that means I'm going from a local TV signal to the sat receiver and interestingly it will show, at the top of the screen, "Direct TV", so it recognizes the input source but won't pass through the content. So far I have been able to get it to switch by going back and forth a few times.

Any ideas or suggestions?

My Sony at the S&Bs has multiple HDMI inputs, if yours does too is the, HDMI feed in HDMI #1?
My Sony doesn't have an auto find feature for input so this may not apply.
